I can wait...I don't need the funny farm characters fishing  the walnut creek access area and in the boat docks while everyone is trying to get their boats out of the chan......Caught two lines last year in my prop cause of the ignorant people...I like steelie fishing, but people just don't care about the boaters when boating season is in..Doesn't even matter if you hold the horn down going through the chan...They still keep their lines in....

ffpa... pleaseee

That rod is already in pieces due to some moronic forgetfulness while putting gear away during a thunderstorm this spring, and sadly, the pin in the bottom two pics went with it.  Luckily, was able to get a new one.

btw.. the pin is put away until November, unless these stinking guys decide to have this so called "tournament" before.  Flies only my friend.

I don't see the need for extended drifts like that with a pin anyways... Sometimes I pin while my friends fly fish, and most of the time(unless Loomis is downstream of me) I utilize the same water coverage as they.

There are some misconceptions about these stellar drifts, it's not all downstream oriented.  I cast upstream and use my finger to retrieve enough needed to keep all line off water, then drift directly under the float at 12:00, and then the normal fly/spin drift downstream.  Only a handful of times have I drifted an entire stretch...unless, like I said, Loomis is trying to high stick.  I also only use a 9 ft float rod opposed to the 11-13 like most pinners do, thus making really long drifts difficult for hook sets.

BIGSLICK , If you fish a noodle rod for steelies then you might have been fishing PIN style and not known it.

Its just a real long drift through a section of water in the crick.

The pin reel just allows you to free spool your line(which you cant do with a fly reel and with difficulties on a spin reel),while keeping all line up and out of the water while drifting your float through a long section of water.

papinner and / or any other pin fisherman could elaborate more on it but thats about it. From my observations.

I have fished with pinners , its a real art in fishing it. kinda cool ,but im old school and dont want the added expenses of more gear. I spin and fly and thats about it.
