ORIGINAL: IUP30 Got back a few days ago from a trip to Northern Manitoba at a fly-in lodge with company people. We were fishing for pike, walleye and lake trout. The country was unreal and so was the fishing. We went to the Laurie River Lodge flying in from Lynn Lake, Manitoba but we had some issues with traveling. Our rods didn't make the trip from Chicago to Winnipeg - all fourteen of us had the rest of our gear, just no rods. Cabelas was closed so Wal-Mart it was for some spinning poles just to get by - we found out later the lodge also had some for us we were able to use. Our rods didn't end up getting there until the last day - time for us to take them home. I was pretty down about the rods but the fishing made up for it in no time. Getting into the lodge we found out ice was still on the water just ten days ago. The fishing got better each day as the water warmed. Although, Wednesday was 40 degrees and overcast all day. We flew out to a different lake each morning - McGavock Lake (where the lodge was located), Lake Kamuchawie, Craig Lake and Kadeniuk Lake. For me, the luck wasn't there for size but the numbers were ridiculous. Caught close to 200 pike in 4 days - maybe more, don't really count. Walleye was probably close to 100 but I focused on the pike. There were times though that you'd get on a spot and it was a fish on every cast. One rock reef on the last day produced over 60 fish for each of the two of us on the boat until we ran from the wind. The longest stretch casts there without a fish was 6 casts. Size was there for some of our group -- biggest caught was a 44" with a good number over 40"+ fish. Another guest at the lodge not in our group landed a 47". Truly an amazing fishery - I wish I was there this week though. Here's some pics - not quite as impressive as the Kodiak trip thread but enjoy anyway! My guide for the week - Slim (all the guides were Cree Indian) Jigging for 'eyes in the Twin Rivers - amazing they would hit in 3' of water with the motor in idle... right at the boat and not afraid at all. Some lakers for lunch The cabins Shore lunch cooking My island This guy and a mate circled around us for an hour at shore lunch - they had a reason.... My biggest pike of the week - only a 36" but I lost a larger one. Had to mash trebles down up there so you'd lose a fish every now and then... just unfortunately happened to be my big bite. Oh well... Can't wait to go back again some day. Nice Job dude! And I gotta catch up with you on bass fishing because I never knew I could catch so many bass on one type of artifical bait so easily. This past week I caught tons of bass! The one patch of weeds I casted to 3 times and caught 3 bass.. But looks like you had a great trip
