hiclassHilbilly -> How is the water on the 3 rivers (6/25/2009 8:47:27 PM)
I was thinking about heading out that way for some catfishing on friday night or saturday night. How is the water clarity out there? Is everything still brown and unfishable?

Do you plan on going catfishing from shore or boat?
The water on the Ohio is still brown, but certainley not unfishable. It's clearing really fast too. If things stay somewhat dry till friday you'll be in good shape. But of course that depends on how much rain is coming from upriver.
Where do you plan on going?

Catfish don't care about brown water.[;)]

I only have a little jet boat and a brake rotor for an anchor (persuant to my screen name), so if the flow is really high and fast, i wont be able to fish from it, but will fish from the shore instead. I was hoping to get out early enough that bass and other species would be an option as well, so if the water isnt too mucky, I know it is worth my time.

mon looked okay today....heard the allegheny is still a lil high though. ohio seems to take the longest to settle down.

Hiclass, if you plan on fishing the Ohio I can throw you a bone.
These links might help you out. The forecast is looking pretty good.

thanks for the info guys. I have never been on the ohio, although that is probably where i would end up. I need to find a public boat launch.... hmmmm

Easy to do. Where you coming from?
Where on the ohio do you plan on fishing? Below/above emsworth, dashields or montgomery?

well, this is my first summer with a boat and I have never been on the river, so I have no idea where I want to go. I will be coming up from the washington area.
Which area is pretty easy to get to and will allow me to travel UP river to fish? I dont want to head down river b/c I dont totally trust my motor yet.

Hiclass, I sent you a PM.

I use an old gear from the steel mill that my dad gave me for an anchor... It will not hold during high water either.
I didn't see the rivers since the rain last night, and would expect them to change from now until you are likely going to fish. Keep an eye on the following for a relatively good indicator of where to go.
Pittsburgh area free launches. You'll likely have to google exact directions, or search this site.
Mon - South Side (closest to the Point) or Braddock (much closer to dam)
Allegheny - Sharpsburg (Pgh Pool - right below Highland Park dam), Blawnox or Harmar for L2/3 pool
Ohio - Glenfield (about 1-2 miles right below the Emsworth Dam - Emsworth side of river). There are a bunch of private launches closer to the back channel if you don't mind spending $10.
