Just heard about a couple ponds that sit behind Peters Creek In Jefferson Hills. Looks to be a couple miles behind the Large Hotel.
Anyone know of these ponds? Are you aloud to fish them, are there any fish in them?
Any info would be nice, the boat is out of gas and I need some place close to burn an evening, other than the Mon.

there's fish in there.  but i cannot speak on the legality of fishing there.  there was a thread a year or so back regarding it.  some say yes, some say no.  tons of small bluegill, some carp, some bass, some tiny crappies from what i've seen/caught.

better off fishing the crick.  plus from elizabeth you can fish the river, smallies should be heating up.

Plus there is a seaweed problem with these ponds, i've heard theres some big boys in them, but catching them is another story as the seaweed makes virgin run look not so bad, lol.

I was informed last night that you are not allowed to fish these ponds, I don't know for sure, I didn't want to go make a wasted trip, I just headed the other direction and skunked anyways.

I too have heard you can not fish the ponds.  I have fished them many times.  There are some nice bass in them, just hard to catch.  Rubber worms are the trick. There is always somebody fishing them.  Who told you not to fish them?  Just wondering. In that thread a year ago I think they said they were fined. If you are not allowed I wonder why.  I Know the land is or used to be owned by the govt.

I have fished those ponds too, and have caught some nice bass from them.  I haven't seen any signage that would indicate that I shouldn't fish there, and there are lots of bits of refuse and mono that indicate that other people fish there, too. If it is illegal or unsafe to fish there, I would like to know about it.

(We are talking about the ponds near the cliff, close to the iron bridge that goes over Peters Creek, right?)

Yes we are. It is ashame tho, because if your truly not allowed to fish them, then why isn't there any signs stating so? It should be posted officially then as b/c of it not being, i bet alot of people end up getting fined.

I was just told from a friend that you are not allowed to fish them, I don't know for certain. Its about 10 minutes away from my house, I may take a ride out there this evening and see what I can find out. I try to make a couple flips in there to see if anyone watching has something to say. I don't like causing problems for people when I go fishing, but knowing there is a pond/lake there that has fish in it is worth trying to me. If I get caught I'll let you know how much the fines are. I'd pay for a chance at a 5 pounder, if they are in there.

Private property is just that, whether posted or not.  But, if it isn't posted and you haven't been "officially" warned before, then you shouldn't get a fine and if it were me and you did get fined, I'd fight it.  First offense should be a warning and verbal direction to vacate the property by the owner or their designated representative or the law, if they show up.  Now, if it is railroad property or some other government agency, you may very well get the screws put to you.

Finally drove out to the pond Sunday evening. Around 4 vehicles there, and some dirt bikes riding around. Looked promising at first glance but after walking the edges I don't know that I will go back. I didn't see any posted signs, though I was talking to an older gentlemen who said your not supposed to fish it. Didn't stop him. My guess, its a good bait pond. Lots of small bluegill. I did see some carp jumping around in the middle. Sad that people have to leave their trash laying around, I saw a really sad sight off the back edge, someone tied some racoons to a post about 12 feet off the bank. I don't know why someone would go these measures to do such a thing. But, theres my take on the pond.
