Original is something that your first post here lacks douche bag

CB.... great thread. I don't own a boat but it's cool seeing this all come together. Aren't any of you guys into cars? Same deal, if I was restoring an old muscle car and posted all the progress. Keep up the good work, I'd be proud to.

Thats how most normal fishing and boating forums work...Personally I love seeing guys who rip apart old boats and put them back together making them better than ever and enjoy posts about updates and products being used by other anglers...I thought maybe I would start a post similar in that nature maybe put something interesting up...Posting photos of my progress with my boat and some new products I havent used or seen in the past....Oh well...So far I've only pi$$ed in 2 or 3 guys Cheerios....

FishErie is just very unique in its own nature with its members...You have the Steelhead guys who fade away a bit in summer...The walleye and perch guys...then theres that other group of guys who I have no idea what they wish to accomplish on here...its odd

Many of the other forums I go to, people appreciate the "progress" threads, especially those thinking of doing something similar.  The lessons learned can help out other people immensely.

Question CB, was there a survey completed on the boat before you bought it?  Obviously you knew of some of the issue swith the tranny/alignment but how about the water in the hull?  Just wondering how much of a variance there is with marine surveyors as far as quality jobs.

My buddy went to Ohio to purchase a 28' Baha last weekend and the sea trial put things on hold.  The boat was surveryed a couple years prior and for an '87, it was in immaculate shape with lots of custom upgrades and fishing equip. and lots of electronics included.  Not too far out of the dock, the engine started to overheat.  Brought her back to the dock and low and behold, the impeller broke apart.  They put on a new one but, with the pieces gone, who knows what is now blocked.  They spent 6 hrs taking things apart and putting them back to together trying to clean everything out but it was still overheating after some use.  It has a 454 Mercruiser single inboard.  Never worked on one but, is there two separate water pickups/pumps; one to pull water from the lake from the intake and a separate water pump to push it through the engine?  Just wondering if there is another pump he can check out to see if something is clogged in there?  The seller is supposed to have it checked out at the marina and have it serviced but who knows.  My buddy was pretty disappointed.

Anyways, good job on the progress with your boat and hopefully you can splash it soon and bloody the decks a little.

Not sure about the 454...But they usually only have 1...???

"Impeller broke apart" would suggest an IO. So there would be the circulating pump on the engine as well as the pick up in the leg. Pieces of the impeller would go all the way through the cooling loop and may be obstructing the thermostat, could be blocking any small passages. She'll need a good flushing throughout and I would put a new thermostat in anyway. I would recommend a survey or at least get someone like BigFathead to check it over, lots of issues to be wary of in older glas boats.

I had a mechanical survey done on the boat which was my main concern....Guy was pretty particular...Pointed out a few issues that I have already resolved.  Stringer grid is immaculate and in very good shape...I tap tested the stringers and the hull itself is solid fiberglass and very tough (drilled my thru-hull in last week)...Im gaining a new appreciation for Sport-Craft Boats...

I drilled 4 holes in the transom for the kicker last weekend transom in very good shape West System Epoxy in the holes and 5200 on the bracket...Pulled the old transducer that was a transom mount and little issues there below the water line...Going to West System them this weekend and bottom paint over.  Hull is in very good shape...Only 1 real issue that ive found and it involves closed cell foam holding water up near the wood deck...I need to figure out a way to drain it out the 3 bulkheads that are holding the water....Probaly a few holes some PVC Pipe and some more Epoxy to seal off the wood...

I have atleast a solid day of work left weather doesnt look all that hot for the holiday weekend so that may put my mind at ease...I really want to take it for a ride at some point this weekend even if it is just around Conneaut Harbor to see if there are any bugs left that I need to fix...Im hoping we will be good to go...

Yes you are right about the water pumps...one does pull the water the other is a circulating pump...I had a buddy replace his 350 a couple years ago because his blew apart as well...Might be something I want to do prior to putting this thing in the water...This 454 is closed system so the only thing water is cooling is the manifolds and the risers...The rest is Anti-Freeze..

Why dont you take a picture with the eyeballs on?  Hawg Wild Charters aka the 28ft Insect...

You wont live this down for your unique light poles...

Are your nets long enough Wayne?....Thats really the only problem I ever saw in that Baha is how high you are and how far away that fish really is when it seems so close...

Wayne Ill be up on Thursday night...Are you going to try to fish Friday if not stop up for a beer...Ill be around working away trying to get in the water this weekend......

Seems most boats hold water somewhere! They drilled many additional holes in my bulkheads for drainage. Mine is a Baha 280 and the complete front end of the boat was full of water when they tore it apart. These bigger boats with inboards sit with the front lowert than the rear at the dock. My rear bilge pump never turns on just the midship and the front pump. Really sucky boat designs!

Im the Anti-PA angler and not really into steelhead fishing...But I wouldnt mind getting on a team if some1 needs an extra idiot putting in his 2 cents....Im an excellent net man....I dont even have my boat sound yet and havent even drivin it 2 miles and your wanting me to put up money on top of buying a PA License *YUCK!*

Is that the only way you will validate me as a good fisherman?

Your welcome to ride along. I may need another team member but think we have four. That depends on Uncle Larry! He says he don't like two day tournaments. You keep picking on my lights. It's not about the look it's about the conveinence and how usable they are. Whens the last time you had deck lights on and turned to walk to the front of the boat and was blinded? My lights are fully adjustable and face downward. I'm starting a new trend. Also keeps the bugs higher from the deck. Pretty good idea.....HUH....?

Get me some water or diet soda for when I stop over!

Wayne I like to use the little green LED clip lamps for my hat for the AM runs...I did get two nice Hella LED courtesy lights that fill up the back deck very nicely...Low amp draw, no heat, no burn outs...I am going to miss my Remote Spot Light that is still on the Trophy though...Maybe ill have to look into a set of Insect Lights for my boat too...lol only I wont be afraid to put eyes on mine...

Taco Fun....Im allowed to jag Fathead...hes allowed to jag me...we have a mutial love hate relationship...dont judge us...If he wants to spell Warehouse, WhereHouse, or Wharehouse he is subject to be jagged by those who know him on a personal basis and realize why they call him "Fathead" or "Hammerhead" (you can thank Smurf for that one Wayne)...

Im glad you created a new account just for me...Thanks for the compliment and thanks for wasting your time cause Im thick skinned and dont care...
