Does anyone know if High Point Lake is back to normal level?

George: I went up there this morning to check it out. It's still an estimated 3 feet down. They have recently put about 30 yards of big stone in so you can back out from the south launch but i think its still to shallow to launch a normal size boat unless your willing to put the tow vehicle in the water.

I drove over to the north launch and there is about 10 yards of the same rock from the concrete to the water. At the end of the rock there is a quick drop off of about 1 foot and i think most normal boats could be launched. There were 2 trailers parked at the north launch but i wasn't sure how large the boats were.  If you try it let me know how launching goes.

Talked to 1 fisherman at the south launch and he said he did good this morning on largemouth, pike, crappie and perch.

hey dave - we're thinking about launching the canoe again this memorial day weekend - thanks for the report! with all the recent rain, i thought the lake may be up a good bit - i think we'll launch at the dam area again.

dave - we never did get to high point this past weekend - fish laurel hill creek section 2 and caught 46 nice brown and raibows including a wonderful 20incher brown.

we'll try to hit high point in the next few weeks and will report in.

Went to highpoint yesterday to take a look at the lake and see how the fishing was going. I talked to a couple of people and they seemed like they were doing pretty good. They said the pike and bass were hitting and they had caught a few. The lake is still down a good ways from normal level. You can get a smaller boat on right now, but not sure about anything with some size to it. I took a few pics, but I'm not sure how to post them. Anyone care to help?

I was told they extended the north ramp with rocks for people to get small boat out of. Just rumor I heard...

They have extended both ramps with rock. You can get out on either side if your boat isn't to big.

You might be able to get that on, but it will be close. Being a deep V, I'm not sure.

Anybody have an update on High Point?  I heard the pike are biting.  Long drive, but I'm planning on going soon.  Last time I went, my boat was getting destroyed by the winds.  It was ridiculous.  What part of the lake has the most pike action?  I've caught em everywhere, but wondering if there are parts I should focus on...

Side Note: please handle musky and pike with care.  keep them in the water in a net or cradle, take em out for a quick photo snap and release.  Make sure they are ready to go.  Seen a dead musky and pike at Tamarack and High Point last times I went.  Always a bummer, because they could be growing to be caught more and put up a bigger fight!

I was there Tuesday.  I have a 14 ft. deep V and I'm glad I have a tilt trailer.  The water is still several feet low and it is somewhat difficult to launch.  The winds at high point are always bad except real early and close to dark.  Over the years I've seen many boaters blown to the oposite side of the lake they put in walking back to the other side to retrive their vechicles.  Make sure you have plenty of power in your electric motor and a spare battery.  The lowering of the lake during the winter has taken care of a lot of the weeds, but there are plenty left and that's where you'll find the pike.

Thinking of trying to put a 16' V bottom on the lake this weekend. The boat is a little on the heavy side. Is it going to be possible to get it out on the water?

Been fishing high pt in a 16V, you want to go north end launch, when putting your boat in you do not want to go perpendicular with the launch.  If you're lookin straight down it you want to go the left a bit, its a little deeper.  have all your motors up and out of the water.  someone is going to have to get wet.  i DEFINITELY suggest an ore to push off until you get in the 4ft range. 

also be very cautious when moving around.  lots of trees that come up and stuff in the water.

Well I finally made it to the lake this past weekend. We were able to get the boat on without to much trouble and the lake is actually up a couple of feet from the last time I was there just about a month ago. I started off throwing a crankbait and was doing well with the bass, then switched to some spinners and was still catching the bass, but still had no luck with the pike. I went and put a shinner on with a bobber and caught a couple nice pike and lost a really nice one that I got to about 3 feet from the boat an he spit the hook. It would have been the biggest pike for me at high point. We figured it was in the 30 to 35 inch range. All in all it was a very good day. I ended up with about 10 to 12 bass and 3 pike and a couple perch.
And boy what a big difference that lake is with all the weeds knocked down. It will be real nice there once the water level is back to normal.

I was up there this morning and the lake is still about 18 vertical inches low. There were 2 boats launched from the north side. I would think anything trailerable in the 14 to 16 foot range could be launched without to much trouble.  I still think launching anything but a canoe from the south side would be tough.

There are a lot of stump tops still barely underwater. If your cruising in close you might want to go pretty slow if the trolling motor is running especially on the south side.

No I just walked the shoreline and only made a couple of casts. Talked to one fisherman who just pulled his boat and he said he caught a few crappies around 10 inches.

The fish commission crew was there for some reason but couldn't get their large boat (18 to 20 ft) ? launched . There was one other boat on the water with 3 fisherman in it.

Next trip I'll take the boat and actually fish it. Hopefully soon. It was calm up there this morning so i missed a good wind day. Next time it'll probably be howling.

last time i was on high point lake was last september i really like the lake but i'm not sure what it is like.  can you still walk around the edge of the lake, is the fishing still good, i was hoping to get up there with in the month or so.  it is about an hour and a half or so drive, i don't know how many of you fished it last september but if any of you did can you compare to last september as far as water levels go, thanks.

and the reason i am wondering about the water level so much is because i thought i read somewhere they were taking it down until this september, leaving it like that until next spring and then filling it back up a bit.[:@]

Was at the lake today, didn't do any fishing, just wanted to see what the lake looked like. It's only about a foot low and looks really good. Has anybody fished it lately? I plan on getting back up there real soon to try my luck.

Last time I fished it got a few pike and pikerel.. it's harder with the heat now for the northerns... the bigger ones are laying down low in spots to keep cool which are harder to find.  Burning a bucktail or workin an erratic jerkbait usually brings the smaller guys out. 

Another person in my boat was using one of them hollow belly softbaits with a big weighted hook on it and lost a huge largemouth after it jumped out of the water.

Good luck, its a nice lake to fish... if the wind isn't blowing and your batteries aren't low!
