ORIGINAL: Banana Boat Do the algae blooms have any effect on the fishing? Opinions? I've wondered the same. So, here is my opininon... I'd imagine something small eats it, which is eaten by something and so forth down the food chain. I know that it makes spotting small surface breaks (bait fish) a bit easier. Which some times puts you where the game fish are. I don't think it gets thick enough to choke out oxygen, like you hear about in the Gulf of Mexico. I've seen small ponds with 20 times as much, and seems to hold fish. But might get enough to keep some species away? I'd also assume that it difuses the sun's light, so possibly attracts fish? I never avoid it or seek it out.
