Status: offline 		Fished Muddy Creek yesterday. Hooked 3 Northerns but only landed one 27 inches. Managed only 3 keeper crappie over 10 rest smaller. All fish caught on minnows. Water is alittle high and muddy.

Status: offline 		fished for a little over an hour today, and caught 5 bass, one was a nice 22'' 6+ pounds. ALso saw some guy catch a musky. Anyone else doing any good?

Status: offline 		Picked up a couple bass tonight but nothing over 16".  Rain held off just long enough for a pleasant night on the lake.  Where are these mysterious Arthur Muskie?

Status: offline 		My recomendation, would be to check it out and pack light.  If you don't hear them (alewives), then move.  Unless you have a spot that you are confident to wait them out, I wouldn't.  They'll be active somewhere on the lake at some point.  Whether or not the wipers are there is another story.  I like the odds of having bait busting around me rather than blindly casting.  I have caught them this way, but at spots that I have caught them before.  I'd also stick closer to the roads and such, so your not hiking 2 miles through the woods to get to your car to search east, west or north.  If you are confident in a spot, then by all means hit it up hard.  I am pretty sure the wipers will show up in just about every part of the lake, as long as there is food for them.

Status: offline 		not looking for secret spots just wanna make sure im not wasting my time fishing shallow as opposed to the main lake...i feel comfortable in big run which probably makes a world of difference in pitch black conditions. not catching stuff is one thing...gettin hurt and ruining equipment is a whole different story....someone was asking me how big the stripers get up there...i said around 10lbs...that about right??

I would say a good number may push 15lbs...never weighed any but when then start hitting 26'', 27'' or more, they are pretty heavy!   Are you talking about ''Bear Run'' when you say ''Big Run'', or do I need to look closer at my map?

There is a house with a dock right off of the lake on Big Run.....

Status: offline 		15 LBer's are very rare. Ten is a high average, on a very good year. Generally they average 6-8 from year to year.

For the next 3-4 weeks, any shallow, weedy cove. Look for weeds just below the surface. Most of the back half of the Muddy creek arm, fit the bill.

first off, a 10 pound wiper is possible in Moraine, but VERY RARE.
You will hear people saying they caught 8 pounders which in reality if weighed would only be 5-6 pounds.
just like steelhead in Erie, wipers are often misjudged.

Due to a wipers thick girth, they appear to be heavier then they are. I have weighed prob. 60 + wipers in the last 6 years and have only seen ONE that weighed 8 pounds.

most average 5 pounds or less.

I remember a kid running up to me with a enormous looking wiper saying he had a 15 pounder. when weighed it barely made 7.5 pounds.

To be a little more specific on your question.  I have never fished Big Run at night.  I have fished Porters, which I'd imagine are very similar.  I have caught them there.  I wouldn't suggest Porters, just because there is limited places to fish, and a good drive to the rest of the lake.  There is some good water there though, for a bunch of species.

I will be trying to butter up the wife as much as possible today.  After spending last weekend trout fishing with the buddies and the entire day today doing house work, I'm pretty sure I'm on daddy duty for the remainder of the evening.  Being tired and cranky tomorrow, is not the best way to let mom and mommy know I care!  There's not much more that I'd rather be doing than playing tug a war with mr/mrs line side.

BTW, that house on Big Run is definitely one of the cooler houses in Western PA.  Until you take a look off to the side of 79 between Portersville and 422.  That resort with private pond about 2 miles from Lake Arthur, is my dream home.  If all of us could only live like Spoonchucker!!! 

(Note - If that is your house, I appologize for posting on this site - that place kicks some serious beehind!  Although, if that were your house, I doubt you'd be talking to all of us!  Probably too busy making muNies...  Please God, don't let that by Guru's Crib.)

Status: offline 		Launched from 528, went under the bridge and toward the marina.  It was UNBELIEVABLY windy.  I ended up scooting into the little cove between trout cove and the marina and stayed in there.  Managed a couple bass and a big channel cat.
