Damn... I wish I was that close. I'm in Harrisburg. Good 5 hours drive to Erie. I'll let you know when I'm coming back up though... see if you'll be around. Shooting for Mid November as of now. Waiting for rain and some color to get into the streams.

Sometimes the more you support something the weaker it gets...My favorite part of the one fly was the simplicity and the human element. Donations are the way...no pay and say hey to learn names. It feels good to break out of the comfort zone and shake a strangers hand and say I'm Dennis and you are... I got a big kick out of introducing myself and then finding out someones screen name...You get to watch each other light up as if two old friends met...It was great!! I came up with a new Erie term................."comaradERIE"

anadromous is right.  The whole thing was started so a few friends could get together and have some fun.  As long as I have anything to do with the One Fly, it will always be free, open to anyone who wants to come and fish and the fishing will be on public waters.  As Indy already said on one of these threads, it is like the mountain man rendezvous where people gathered together once a year to swap stories, tell lies, eat some good food, and enjoy each other.  We would of course, throw into the mix fishing.

For me, the simpler the better.  I live by the KISS rule - Keep it simple stupid...

I have some ideas about a more complicated fishing contest where not only is the fishing a component, but fly tying would be a part, casting, and maybe even knot tying.  It would be more of a complete package where you got points on all the various things and earned an overall ranking.  I would not like to discuss that here.

I'm not all about the contest because I pretty much suck at catching fish, but I liked getting together and meeting new people. It'd be nice if the eating and socializing part lasted longer, I didn't get a chance to meet everyone.

I think it would have lasted longer if the PSA didn't schedule the banquet the same day

Mika,
Horse shoes?  Did you mention horse shoes?   I'm so good that for a handicap my oponents make me keep the shoes on the horses!

Hmmm.... I think horseshoes could be an event in itself.  lol.  First break offs can compete for ringers.  I agree about the PSA banquet.  Definately felt like a super busy day, but very enjoyable.

It'd just mean less people on the streams then.

Actually, I had a friend who was sitting down about 15' away from the horseshoe pit at one of the grad parties years ago.  One of my friend's dad was utterly wasted and throwing shoes.  He missed the pin, but he got my friends ankle.  It was nasty looking, but a great laugh after the matter.

If you are referring to the "One Fly" fly I like to fish it as a nymph.   Just enough weight to get it down and then twitch it back in a series of short movements.   Sometimes I'll twitch it up a riffle and then let it drop back about 2' and then twitch it again.  It's made so the soft hackle will flow back over the body.  Looks like some small critter chasing an egg.  Worked for me on the Friday before the "One FLy"

Maybe I should have given it a shot in the stream last night.  Are you guys drifting it or twitching it in still water?

Tim,
So what did you think of it?   Personally, I think the kid has a BIG winner.   It looks just like some small critter biting on an egg and pushing it.  Wonder what it would be like fished just off the bottom on a freestone stream.  Don't have many of them in Central KY.   Have to go to the Cumberland next week to find out.  I'm sure the Skeeter would appreciate any feedback about his fly.

I think it's great. I'm heading out in about 20 mins to my favorite native brookie stream. I'll take some pics and send them over if I do any good on his fly. Can't beat a small blood dot or pheasant tail though on this stream.
