This Wall Street Journal article from Friday is the best answer key that I have found so far that shows how last week's activities were yet another case of the government saving us from---you guessed it---the government.

I don't know what to wonder any more.   There will be some interesting books combining facts with opinion written on all of this.   You can take this back further to the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) signed by Carter in 1977.   This provided strong encouragement to the banks to not discriminate against the less privileged.   I guess it does make me wonder in the end.   I wonder why it is called discrimination against the poor when the banks won't lend money to the poor, but when the banks do lend and make government mandated lending quotas it is called greed.

i think the cra was good in its' original form, but the adendums and changes gave birth to a monster.  whether governmental or corporate, greed infected a good thing again.  now we all pay.
