Sounds great.  It appears from the reports section that 20 mile is rising too.  Any help on that would be appreciated too.  Sounds like 16 is pretty bad.

indsguiz -> RE: the rain is here! (10/1/2008 4:43:55 PM)

I heard they came up about 6" how is that high and muddy.   Now if they came up 4 feet,  THAT would be high and muddy.

fishrmn -> RE: the rain is here! (10/1/2008 4:49:28 PM)

Glad I got to catch a couple dozen before the rain (and the masses) showed up.  There were a ton of fish in the lower streams yesterday, we did VERY well.  Should be alot of fish on the move upstream now.

Indy,

According to the flow chart, Walnut rose about a foot, and a half ( it's fallen some since ). I doubt either stream is "high" but there would certainly be a much greater flow vs volumn. When they are that low, it doesn't take much to significantly change both flow, and clarity.

Where are the pictures?

20 mile  is very fishable as of right now. Lots of fish and just a little cloudy.

Powerrun,
   I wasn't trying to make fun of your post but the rise was up to about normal (or should be) and since it was so dramatic and got everyone so excited I had to comment.  You were right about the muddy though.  Probably will be for a while due to all the dust runoff.  I would tell folks that are watching the stream gauge that just under the high point for the gauge reading for this week is optimum creek level. Much over is too much volume and much under is way too low for good fishing.  Trapping and lifting yes; but fishing no.

I checked the weather this morning and after some showers today and tomorrow, it looks like another run of clear weather.  My guess and it is a guess the streams will be low and clear by the beginning of next week.  The one good thing is that the temp's are going down, so that should help.  Also, the days are getting shorter.

Good luck when you come up.

That would be a waste of time there are very few fish over here

MackJ -> RE: the rain is here! (10/2/2008 11:07:49 AM)

Low and clear is a lot easier to tolerate when there are fish in the creek and further upstream than a few hundred yards.

seejib -> RE: the rain is here! (10/2/2008 11:46:44 AM)

I didn't look this morning but if we don't get anymore rain they will all fall pretty quick. We need a good blow out in them all opened up. The beavers and the wind have some trees down.

accuweather says "heavy rain" falling on erie right now

chasinrainbows -> RE: the creek's are up ! (10/2/2008 10:50:03 PM)

still raining heavy in the west county

Stillhead -> RE: the creek's are up ! (10/2/2008 10:56:48 PM)

Yeah, the streams were mostly blown today. Some of the eastside tribs were fishable. We looked at Walnut at route 20 around noon today, it was BLOWN OUT folks, not just up and muddy, it was blown out. I don't care what some folks interpretation on the new water gauge is, I'm telling you, it was blown out at noon.

Elk was up and muddy but not as bad as Walnut. It rained on the headwaters all day, so the brandy run gauge isn't really showing it, but according to a friend of mine who I know wouldn't lie, Elk did not improve any before it got dark today (normally it would without rain).  It was raining heavy when we were leaving southern Erie county at 8pm.

In short, I don't think anything but the smaller tribs will fish tomorrow. Maybe I'll be wrong, but I doubt it.

MackJ -> RE: the creek's are up ! (10/3/2008 6:14:51 AM)

I found this really great interactive weather map for keeping your eye on  rain events.  Here is a link set up in a useful configuration for keeping your eye on the tribs:
