A collection of stupid stuff I've heard over the years that's made me laugh.

Manchester Mentality - term originally coined by the famous Ironhed. I liked it and have used it often. Describes the notion that you can stand directly beside another fella and fish. If there is 3 1/2 feet between two guys, then there's room for another to squeeze in. This started in the famous Manchester hole and as spread like an infectous disease throughout Erie County.

the Circus - This circus has 3 rings. The wall, stop sign hole, and Manchester hole. It's called the circus because generally, it's more fun to watch shinanagins that are going on than it is to actually fish.

the Shootz - the area that is located directly above the 3 ring circus and becomes the 4th ring when the water is high. This is Mecca to the ButtMonkeys.

ButtMonkeys - Describes those who hook more fish in the tail than in the mouth.

BeRT's dAm - Are the SamEn iN Yet/// Let mE nO///


"Set the Drag on Walleye" - Tighten it all the way down baby!!!

combat fishing: watching out for failed hooksets. can be quite dangerous and commonly occurs at the wall.

this year somebody used the term "wall monkeys." imo that's hilarious. everytime i go through the channel i can picture one falling off the wall into the channel.

"sMaal Duud" is also priceless. we fish a local pond and when we're on opposite sides of the pond and somebody catches a fish and holds it up you can always count on hearing that.

Yankee Fly  -  A fishing act where you Castee fly then you Yankee fly.  Illegal

Flossing  _   The act of maneuvering your line into a fishes mouth and then pulling the line across the mouth and the head.  results in hooks outside the mouth.   Illegal

Force Feeding  -  The act of dangling a lure/fly/bait/jig right in front of a motionless fish and then guiding it into the fishes' mouth when it opens it's mouth to breathe.  And then claiming it as a good hook up.  Yeah, and I can jam a mouse in my lazy cats' mouth but it don't mean he chased it, or wanted it.  Just plain poor fishing etiquette and   Illegal

Hardware chucker  -   Person who fishes with lures.

Almost a fly fisherman  -  someone who fishes live bait on a fly rod.

I always called that lining, and though I don't fish that way I'm not sure if it is illegal.

smallhook,    Yep illegal!  Same as lining!  Results in too many foul hooked fish.  Saw three prople get cited for it on Walnut one afternoon.  Which is a pretty dumb place to do it anyway; right by a warden station where they can stand at the top of the hill and look straight down at you.

Lifting - putting a jig into a fish's mouth, and pulling up. resulting in a hookup.

Yeah, good ole lawnchair maniacs.

You've all seen them along the wall or THE Access.

Lawn chair, thermos, lunch bucket, powerbait, catfish pole, and most likely a portable radio.

Any action that causes them to have to reel in and the maniac comes out. What was nice fella, suddenly turns into something else.

Wanna find one? Use the Manchester Mentality and 'squeeze in.'
Then hook a fish. ooooohhh boy.

Alternative method to locating one is to launch your boat especially at THE Access.

"pulled my pants down"  not totally an erie term. Refers to fishing with a rubber worm or trout magnet or anything plastic that's inserted onto a hook or jig head.
Fish bites. Hook doesn't set. Rubber slides down.
Generally used after reeling in and seeing rubber slide down hook.

"oh, he pulled my pants down"

My neighbor laughs out loud every time I say it.

Some anglers refer to this technique as "forced feeding" the fish....lol!

Mile trippin: Hitting all of the mile streams in one day
Der Stacked up: refers to fish holding together
Muddin: fishing the mud hole on Elk
Spemin: what a male does usally on your leg.

   Some of them are the same folks who can manage to carry 12 pounds of stuff in: but manage to leave 4 pounds of stuff behind.  Not all, just some.  And don't be foolish enough to comment on it to them.

Wow there are a few fisherman that try to catch them legaly. I usally see a bunch of orange yarn balls on the dorsil fin.
