MuskyMastr -> Good Hunter vs. Bad father (9/30/2008 9:46:43 PM)

Ok so here is the deal.  My daughter is in 9th grade and going to the homecoming dance.  Which happens to be this saturday night.

So do I go hunting, which is what I want to do,

Stay home and scare the poor kid, which I would also like to do,

or show up for pictures in full camo and face paint, then sprint off to my stand, and fulfill both duties?

be the good dad

S-10 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (9/30/2008 10:08:23 PM)

Probably the last thing on a 9th grade girls mind going to her homecoming dance is her father. See how pretty she is in her dress, comment on it, and do your thing and let her do her's. That's assuming there is a mother to be handy getting things ready.

DanesDad -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (9/30/2008 11:48:10 PM)

You'll still be out in the morning, right?  Just shoot one in the AM, then you'll be all free in the evening.

I have a daughter, not quite that age (im young myself 27) but I would think she doesnt want you anywhere around for that one. Then again, i dont know your relationship. I say you pull mr hormones to the side and let him know in no uncertain terms that you own A LOT of weapons and that you know places in the woods where no one has ever stepped beside you.

Just KIDDING!

What time does the dance start? I think she would be much more happy to come home and tell you about it rather then make you sit there while she gets ready. I think when my daughter reaches that age she will know how important the first day of archery is to me. Actually, i wouldn't be surprised if she wanted to go with me instead. Last night she helped me build arrows. What 5 yr old wants to do that.

Ask her what she would prefer!

bingsbaits -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 6:54:29 AM)

You hopefully will have many many more archery seasons in the future, But only 1 9th grade homecoming dance..Still a tough call though...

chicken27 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 7:14:59 AM)

I have two daughters one is ten and the other is seven. They both started drill team this year it's like a marching band. There first parade is on october 29.I told the wife i wasn't going if looks could kill i would be a dead man.I have another problem also my wife works early mornings so i got to get the kids to school since i'm self employed.I usally take the last week off faithfully but she may have to go to chicago for a business metting that week so i may not get to do much hunting that week.I think it would crush my youngest daughter if i wasn't at the parade.I guess we have to give a up a day or two in the woods for our kids that's not a bad thing after all now is it.

SilverKype -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 9:07:06 AM)

What time does the dance start?   They are ways of fulfilling both.  One just might have to do without a little bit.    I'd guess it'd depend on your relationship with your daughter.   Plus, how much time is available to you throughout the season to hunt, would also be a consideration.  I'd say chill with the daughter but i don't know..

wallyeye -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 9:08:45 AM)

First question how old is her date? if hes older i would stay home but if you have met him before and he seems like a nice guy go hunting!! there will be a homecoming next year that wont fall on the same day. i live in ohio and was invited to a wedding on the first day and i didnt go i sent my other half to the wedding with my parents ,she wasnt to happy. i was kinda glad i didnt go it was my ex gf that was gettin married,,,,,

FIRST DANCE EVER YOU BETTER GO! Hunting in the morning and if nothing oh-well!

fishin coyote -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 4:26:16 PM)

If you can do both then great but if not you better just be the good father and not go hunting.
Women learn young, the last thing you'll want is her and her mother putting you through the ringer.LOL

SuperTroll123 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/1/2008 11:13:38 PM)

???    Hunt!

griffon -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/2/2008 1:45:45 PM)

I would think that anytime someone with the word "troll" in their username is giving advice, the best thing to do would be just the opposite...  Personally, I would be there for my kids.  I missed the opening day of turkey season this year, because it coincided with the opening day of little league.  I still killed birds later in the season, and got to spend a memorable day with my kids.

No need to kid SK.  My great fear in life is that she will find a guy just like me!  My second greatest fear is that she will act the same way her mother did the night she met me!

The good news is that it seems I will be done with my obligations around 5 pm so the hunt is on!!!!!!!

mikeg -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/2/2008 7:21:54 PM)

Drop the evening hunt and send her to the dance!
You have a ton more evenings to hunt, but this is the only time this year she will go to the dance! Besides, whoe's gonna scare the hell out of her date?

mikeg -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/2/2008 7:26:11 PM)

I read some of the posts' and disagree with the majority!
Your daughter is old enough to see through our BS. If you hunt that evening she will see that she is SECOND on your priority list!

Not to mention your better half is gonna see it in your face.....Dont hunt!

That's really funny!!!!

CATMAN610 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/3/2008 1:41:38 PM)

Go hunting. My buddy always has something to do like a wedding or birthday party for and aunt he sees once a year. Maybe a kid is a different story but if there is anyway around it,,,,take it.

griffon -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/3/2008 1:52:53 PM)

... and we wonder why so many of our youth are like they are in today's society.  I guess they get their priorities and values from their elders...  Catman, if that is how you really feel, that is truly an ignorant statement from someone that needs to grow up.  It would be very interesting to see the reaction your buddy would have to your statement.  I am guessing he might not be your buddy much longer.  FYI, he sounds like his priorities are a lot more inline than yours.

Brookie1 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/3/2008 3:16:42 PM)

skip the wedding, stay home and scare the date. Kids should come first.

Weddings, parties etc. go hunting.

MuskyMastr -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/9/2008 1:53:50 PM)

Quick follow up, as picture taking activities needed to start at 3:30 in the afternoon, I got to scare him and hunt.

He showed up at the door, I answered and said (with a stone straight face)

"Ready to go?"
He answers "Yep"
I say" Ok the mower is in the shed, make sure you weed wack around the fence" and then stand there stone faced.  I think he was several seconds from running away.

End of story, I got to hunt, saw 3 small bucks and was home in time to make sure she was home in time.

Skip16503 -> RE: Good Hunter vs. Bad father (10/9/2008 2:02:51 PM)

Good Dad                   One time a kid showed up to pick up my daughter  She was about 16 or so  He walked into the living room and I was cleaning my pistol  You should have seen the look on that kids face.  LOL
