Fisher of Men -> 6 point buck swimming 5 miles off Elk Creek September 24th (9/28/2008 1:59:58 PM)

The photos below are of a Six Point buck which my Son Jonathan and I saw out on Lake Erie 5 miles off shore on September 24th.   A fellow fisherman, Greg Lasko, a roofing contractor from Erie saw the deer first.  Greg was able to turn the deer and head him back to shore.  The Deer  was swimming at a very fast rate when these pictures were taken with Jon's cell phone.

Not uncommon, I have seen at least 4 dear in the lake in the past 8 years.  They float, dear hairs are hollow.

Awhile back a couple of guys recused a deer in the Chesapeake Bay.  Deer can swim pretty well, but I would imagine if they become disoriented they will eventually tire themselves out and drown.

Of course, this could be a terrorist deer trying to come in from Canada.  We should alert the Border Patrol....[:)]

I may have to set up a stand on my boat this fall!  Kill two birds with one stone[;)].

That's pretty crazy.  Hopefully he makes it.  Maybe a big steelhead will grab him.  LOL![:D]

Bughawk -> RE: 6 point buck swimming 5 miles off Elk Creek September 24th (9/29/2008 11:14:50 AM)

I never thought of using a deer for steelhead bait, but that might be a good idea.  I wonder what size hook I would need?  [8|]

Just tie a cleo onto his rack and let him troll. When he starts going backwards you know there is one on. lol
Nice pixs ,thanks.

catchinfish -> RE: 6 point buck swimming 5 miles off Elk Creek September 24th (9/29/2008 3:35:17 PM)

Bughawk, I'm thinking a size 18 daicchi would do the trick.  [sm=icon_lol.gif]

And I always thought those deer hair poppers I use for bass resembled mice or frogs....
I guess that deer are in a bass' diet, too! [:D]

Cool pics and thanks for sharing!

penn_artist -> RE: 6 point buck swimming 5 miles off Elk Creek September 24th (9/29/2008 6:09:23 PM)

Thats really something else.  I've seen them swimming the Ohio River a few times but never thought of them trying it in Erie.

John 3:16 -> RE: 6 point buck swimming 5 miles off Elk Creek September 24th (9/30/2008 10:01:41 AM)

George,  great pics!  That would make a trip memorable, that's for sure.  Thanks for sharing.  Have to catch up with you and troll the mouths for steel.  Just couldn't clear my schedule enough for walleye.
