2dog -> PETA again (9/25/2008 8:07:28 PM)

Anyone hear the latest from PETA? They want Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream to use mothers milk instead of cows milk. Saying it would reduce the suffering of cows and calves and give ice cream lovers a healthier product. Here's the link http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/O/ODD_BREAST_MILK_ICE_CREAM?SITE=PAGRE&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

While I see the value of this from an entertainment standpoint, I have to admit that I'm not clear on how cows and calfs suffer and how this would reduce their suffering.

pxatim -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 7:38:29 AM)

And just how are they going to get enough human milk to do this... honestly it's f***** up. Animals mean more to them than a human life.

jlh42581 -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 8:32:18 AM)

what about the cows... when they get full... i guess that just vanishes into thin air.

I dont know about you but i wouldnt wanna eat just any womans tit milk ice cream.

mikeg -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 10:07:11 AM)

This is absolutley hillarious!!!

These guys (PETA) rank right up there with Scientologist!
Complete and total NUT BAGS that need to be shot on sight! [:)]

And I don't know about you guys, but I havent witnessed any cows suffering on a dairy farm lately!

leadmen -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 10:16:56 AM)

hay some cows enjoy that udder sucker that was a show on dirty jobs hell the cow walks in the area bumps a switch and the milker does the rest while she enjoys dinner after she done it stops and the next one comes in if it was a bad thing to milk cows we would still have small pox tell peta that rember cow pox stopped small pox

jackq -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 10:43:36 AM)

I seriously wonder whether these people with( I would hope) at least average intelligence have any clue what they are saying before they put idiotic stuff like that in print.

JMZ82 -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 11:29:31 AM)

I grew up on and around many farms, they act as though these cows are destroyed and beaten to make milk. Those cows are the farmers livelihood it is in there interest to keep them healthy and alive as long as possible.  They take the worst situations they can find and advertise those as though all farmers do things that way.  Also on another point if you look at the amount of money given to animal preservation and conservation hunters and fishermen give amounts that dwarf the amount given from groups like peta.....Ducks unlimited is a perfect example.

Bughawk -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 12:15:16 PM)

Stupid is as stupid does.  That's what momma says....  Forrest Gump.

Seriously this is about dumb as it gets.  Never mind the issue of cows, which is a non-issue, there is a problem with finding enough women to supply the milk. The average baby will need up to a liter a day of milk per day.  That means mom will need to make at least that amount if she is going to breast feed her child.  Let's say we find a super mom who can make twice or even three times that much milk, the best case would be say 2.5 to 3 liters per day.  The average cow makes about 22 liters per day.  That means Ben and Jerry would need over 10 women per cow to meet their milk needs.  I have no idea how much milk they use, but it would not be surprised if it is in the 10's of thousands of liters of milk.  The bottom line would be there is no way they could find enough lactating women to provide enough milk if they wanted to switch.  Also, I would bet the farm that human milk would cost way more than cow's milk.

Another serious issue would be potential disease transmitted.  Milk is a body fluid and can transmit a variety of serious infectious agents.

From my point of view this about as stupid an idea as one can imagine.

Cold -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 12:24:58 PM)

Not to mention the great variance in the quality of the milk.  Cows eat grass.  Dry grass, wet grass, tall grass, short grass.  Lots of grass.  Their milk, by extension, is fairly consistent from cow to cow and grass to grass.

Human women, on the other hand eat everything from Cheetos to deep fried twinkies, to sardines.  All at the same time, for some pregnant ladies...lets just hope that tendency trails off after childbirth!  The nutritional value (and I would imagine the taste), would vary so greatly, that the FDA would never approve of something like that on a large scale.

Besides...that's just sick!

Porktown -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 12:47:39 PM)

What I don't understand is, if they some how convinced everyone to quit eating meat or any animal product, what would we do with 90% of domesticated animals?  Kill them all to make room for soy farms to supplant the neutrients lost?  Let cows, goats, pigs roam free, which in turn would compete with the natural order?  They would need people extinct to get what they want.  It is amazing that they have enough support out there to be as large as they are.

Bughawk -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 12:57:12 PM)

Maybe we can have women farms where they pretty much just sit around all day and a eat a constant diet of soy burgers and salads.  They would be milked in the mornings and evenings.  The rest of the day they would just hang out.  Yes the pun is intended....[:)]

Are they taking applications for the stud bull?

jackq -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 3:01:21 PM)

I wouldn't be in too big a hurry to volunteer for that job porktown. They may do like they do on these semen farms...poke their ARM up your bung to get you off and collect the stuff in a jar then use a turkey baster to impregnate the cow. Nah, I think I'd have to pass on that job. I'd see some dude walk in the room with a rubber glove on up to his armpit and he and I are going to have some words...[:@]

PAFISHERMAN1981 -> RE: PETA again (9/26/2008 3:13:15 PM)
