ORIGINAL: Cold Myself? I think that just based on ideals and stances, I'd vote for Palin for president in a heartbeat. Her thoughts and intentions are in the right place, it seems, and I love that she fights corruption. Still, if McCain is elected, theres a very real possibility of his health becoming an issue between now and 2012, and I just dont think Palin could fill the shoes. I agree with you, at least partially. I'm actually finding myself again having to vote for the lesser of two evils. I'm not a huge McCain fan, because he's too liberal in some areas for my taste. I believe he's an honorable man, and I admire his willingness to fight for what he believes in even against his own party at times...I just don't agree with him on some issues (immigration, campaign finance reform, etc.) although I think he's well intentioned. Palin, on the other hand, I agree with in ideology and motivation (meaning I don't think she's in politics for the power). I think she was a good choice for McCain. As far as not being able to fill the shoes, ponder this. The presidency was never meant to be a bastion for the elite attorneys or bureaucrats. Some of our best presidents were farmers, soldiers, and businessmen. Washington was a surveyor/distiller, Adams a farmer/businessman, Truman a farmer then soldier, JFK a writer/sailor, Reagan an actor, then governor. Certainly, we've had some good presidents with a law background (Lincoln, FDR), but some of our worst were lawyers/bureaucrats (Pierce, Buchanon, Fillmore, Tyler, Nixon). Personally, I'd rather have someone in office that has had calluses on their hands and dirt under their fingernails, or agonized over a balance sheet and made the tough decisions as to hire or fire someone. This is more important to me than having had lunch with the president of Algeria at some point in their life...As long as they have sound judgement and are a good manager.
