Status: online 		Jackq--when you put those articles up shouldn't you tell the folks that Michael Kinsley is a acknowledged left wing liberal who writes for the New Republic which bills itself as the magazine of Centrist Liberal Opinions. Heck, their rag is full of worse attacks against Repubs than that one.  One thing about it, there is so much bul--hit being wrote and said about her that has been, or is being, proven wrong that even if they do come up with some legit dirt on her no one is going to believe it.

Did you happen to take the time to read any of the other articles on the factcheck site? Specifically the one about McCains misleading ads about Obama's tax cuts. Try that one.

The author of that article is the guardians-Editor at large and the former editor of the New Republic--both admitted far left liberal viewpoint publications. ------------ From the time of purchase through the present the federal government has given money incentives for living in Alaska to intice folks from the lower 48 to settle there. They have also invested money in improving facilities, services, and infrastructure to make it more liveable and to make it easier to recover the natural resources. This was all before Palin and continues through her term as mayor and governor. the 2% is misleading as it is 2% of budget not earmarks. No matter how you cut it $500,000 is a significant reduction in a state budget. As mayor your job is to get as much help as you can for your town. At the federal level it is recognized that to get the people you need to come to such a rural area you need to make it financally attractive and have many of the services available in the lower 48. Remember -even as you look at her air fare costs--Juneau which is the state capital has NO roads leading in or out of it. It is accessable by boat or plane only, as are many other towns. Many things not considered necessary down here may be routine in Alaska due to distance, weather, and other conditions. A liberal living in a condo making his living bashing conseratives doesn't know and probably doesn't care about the differences.

Status: offline 		OK I'll give you the $500,000 reduction in state budget, but what about the 22Million debt she left the town of Wasilla when she left as mayor. Also explain if you will, the windfall tax on the oil companies. Granted they were probably in effect prior to her becoming gov. but she made no effort to repeal them. as a matter of fact she increased them to give the citizen of Alaska $1,200 checks. Doesn't that sound somewhat like what Obama has been saying he'd like to implement??? If it's good enough for the citizens of Alaska, why not for the rest of America????

Status: online 		I guess you have the choice of giving jobs and profits to Americans or Arabs. With Americans they all have to pay federal taxes that goes into our treasury. I'am not sure if the Arabs will send us their money, their martyers perhaps. I read another side of the 22mil claiming it is't true either. Don't know which one is correct or if it even means anything. As gov her job is to look out for the good of the citizens of her state, as V.P. her job is to look out for the good of the citizens of the nation. She seems to have done her job quite well as mayor and gov.

The article you post is not written by the times and is in the opinion section. It's a typical associated press article by a freelance writer from the Juneau Empire (an Alaskan newspaper). This guy is your typical sports writer turned political writer. He is bashing the same state that he praised last year for tax breaks and refunds. He is bashing the same woman he praise a year ago. He's your typical Flip-Flop ! Many points in this article have been proven to be false. He is also one of the people that made up the whole "her baby is actually her daughters baby" which has been proven over and over AND OVER to be false. I guess if making up facts and expecting that people won't call you out on them is what true journalism is about, them he fit's right in. Most of us Americans are not that stupid. He states no facts in that article that gives him any credibility with this story - Yes folks, just a story ! It's easy to run your mouth when you have no factual information or references as to where you got your information, it's hard to try and write good honest things about someone you dislike. If I said - "JackQ sleeps with donkeys" , does that make it true ? What info do I have to back it up other than opinions. Now if I said - "I have pictures of JackQ sleeping with a donkey" and then let the public see them, I now have credibility. Newspapers are no different - just peoples opinions. Do you believe everything you read ?

Status: offline 		I think you may be mistaken there bass ackwards. From what I gathered the photo that accompanies the article was from  Brian Wallace and the article was written by Michael Kinsley. And I don't for the life of me understand what the big deal is with someone changing their mind, a.k.a. flip-flopping. Besides, so what if Brian Wallace was a sports writer, Mrs. Palin was a TV news woman!! I think also you guys may be taking what I'm trying to say out of context. My statement was the state of Alaska has a windfall profit tax on the oil companies which gave the citizens a check for $1,200. The McCain/Palin ticket is against any windfall profit tax on the oil companies....WHY??? If it's good enough for the citizens of Alaska why not for the rest of America?? What's so hard to follow??

Status: offline 		Yeah Alaska does have oil, but I'd rather conserve the remaining of our natural resources than go into maybe one of the prettiest states & destroying all of the beautiful things there. Just think it's happened before! Pennsylvania, MANY native streams have been destroyed by Mining (sp?) and do we want that to happen to Alaska? I'll pay 4 dollars a gallon so that thousands upon thousands of healthy fish still thrive in perhaps the greatest waters in the world. When we've finished messing up Alaska then whats next? Rather start now then tomorrow.

Status: online 		The $1200 was available because of the increase in price of oil which increased the states share of royalties. The reason for it was to help the citizens with heating bills which have gone up about 70% since 2006. Average energy bill was over $3500 per household last year in Alaska and their houses on average are much smaller than ours. Their gasoline also runs about .70 more per gal. than ours.

The markets were holding their breath yesterday out of fear they would reduce production to keep the price up. Don't think $4.00 gas, think $10,12 gas or NO gas if the wrong guys are running the show. Think Chavez, Iran, Russia, Bin laden.

Hmmm...  Scare tactic politics?  I wonder if that W...orks??? 

Gas prices will not pass $5 per gallon for a long time.  OPEC leaders are douchebags, but they aren't a bunch of economic idiots.  They know the world will conserve and dump money into alternative resources, making them worthless in a few years, if oil rises that high.  They also know that they are the reason that every product in the world has risen in price.  If you sell $10 gallon of gas, that means milk goes from $3 to $9 per gallon.  A lb of whatever will go from $1 to $3.  They will not starve the entire world, without the entire or at least powerful portion of the world revolting.  They know that it is getting to that point, thus oil has fallen for the past month. 

Kind of strange to me, that this oil crisis would happen during an administration full of oil men...  Nothing like putting another one in the pocket of oil, back into office.  While we're at it, instead of taxing oil, lets give our tax dollars to them and let them bend us over...

Status: online 		You guys are ignoring the realities of life in this decade. Agreed that some of our oil exc's are greedy bast--ds. The people that control the oil and oil price and quantity right now are ARABS--Iran, Iraq, Saudis, etc. They include a whole lot of folks that don't give a damm about oil money, Westerners or their own country men, and hate anything not wrapped in a Burka or wearing robes. They don't mind killing themselves if they can take out a few of us along with them. If we don't acheive energy dependence all our money goes to them and they can shut off the worlds oil anytime they want and you will have to walk to Alaska in the dark. BTW-- you can't believe how wild and beautiful the place is in the summer. The locals says it sucks in the winter though. they have a very high divorce and suicide rate and blame it on the long winters. Also big families and blame that on the long nights.

Status: offline 		Yeah I'm hooked on it . 150 days out there.. hmmm.. not as extreme though. Living with a relative, fishing maybe 5-6 hours aday. And yeah that's the main reason I'm liking Obama. Not cause of any other of his offerings, but rather his energy crisis plan.

This is not the same old royalties check. This year that was around 2000 dollars. This is an additional 1200.
You can indeed put lipstick on a pig but she will still have signed a windfall profits tax on the oil companies.
What does thatb say for Mr McCain? He makes a speech about making a point of saying he will veto and annouce who sponsered the first earmark bill to his desk as Pres and then picks a woman who as the mayor of a village of 10000 people asked for 27000000 million in earmarks. He praises her for being against the "bridge to nowhere", which she had been behind earlier, but doesn't menrtion that she kept the money. He is against a windfall profits tax but picks a running mate that has just signed one into law in her state.
He said the war in Iraq would be realatively easy and then 5 years later says that he and others new from the start it would be a long hard fight.
Talk about flip flopping. The man is like a steelhead on the rocks.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Here are two reasons for people in Alaska to smile: Their annual oil royalty dividend will likely be bigger than ever and the checks will go out earlier than ever before.
Nearly every man, woman and child received $1,654 last year. This year's payout is expected to be higher, but it hasn't been calculated yet. Residents could see their checks as soon as next month.
There will be an extra $1,200 this year to help offset high energy prices. The first winter-like temperatures and snowfall are just a month away in some areas.
And a recent Lundberg Survey said Anchorage had the highest gas prices in the country, at $4.37 a gallon.
The dividend checks come from the state's oil royalty investment program and are distributed each year to eligible residents -- just for living in Alaska for a full calendar year.

Status: offline 		I think we should start a grass roots coalition to push for a Natural Gas Dividend check for all Pennsylvanians.  Since the Marcellus Shale is the "next big thing" why not?  Don't Pennsylvanians have trouble heating their houses?? Don't we have trouble feeding our families?  Don't we want incentives for our young people to stay and for people to move her to set up businesses?? 

The state just auctioned off the rights to 75000 acres in Lycoming and Tioga counties.  That's a drop in the bucket.
