I have to agree with you splitshot, we need them as PA taxpayers. But I myself avoid this situation altogether. This is an old thread and will be rejuvenated next april, but trout fishermen fall into 4 categories.

1) the bucket truck chaser

2) the purist fly fisherman

3) spin fishing native hunter(bait or artificial)

4) opening day fisherman who doesn't know the A-hole's he is goin to have to deal with

#1 is a blight on the state and fishing industry as a whole,but are necessary for fees.
(summertime) They rotate to swamping smaller boats in the river and get a kick out of it. Also, they golf, ride Harley's as if they were tougher for doing so, bicycle in tight and bright colored spandex on country roads, and wear crocs while enjoying their favorite beverage on the water or along the river.

#2 and #3 I don't have a problem with,they know their identity. It is the April trout fishermen that have the problem IMO.

#4 will learn over time, maybe within a year that the first week of trout means goodwill to other people goes out the window for a couple **** tasting fish(not as good as a walleye anyday).

To all of you stock truck fishermen i have made a seat that goes on the back of the truck all you have to do is hook it on the truck and fish your little heart out while going down the road. It will be on the market soon so you won't have to follow the stock truck anymore you can ride on it. Just think a stringer full every time and no more trying to find the stock truck.

To all of you stalk truck fishermen out there i have made a seat that fits on top of the truck you just hook it on the truck and fish your little heart out. just think no more hunting the stock truck you will be rideing it down the road in style. I posted something similar to this over on the Huntpa.com site. You guys that despise the stocked Trout need to get over it. Who the heck cares if folks "chase" trucks, or carries a bucket to their "secret spot" that only BillyBob and his daughter know about (along with the other 250 guys). Trout fishing is FUN. The stocked Trout generate FUN for hundreds of thousands of PA residents, young and old alike. Y'all want to take away that day outing when grandpa grabs his most cherished prize, his granddaughter, and with wailed pride, casts that pink Barbie rod from Wal-Mart (oh satan itself, sorry it's not Orvis) about 3 tangled feet, in hopes of catching one of those "pelletheads" for her stringer. GET OVER IT y'all big, bad, native/wild Trout gurus. Stocked Trout are FUN, generate tons of revenue for this state, and allow memories to be made for families across the commonwealth. Yeah, turn every stream into a Delayed Harvest, or better yet, a Class A, naturally reproducing stream and see how many Barbie rods your local Satan, I mean Wal-Mart sells. Are there 50 yr old men that act like 8 yr olds on Christmas when the truck shows up, well yeah, but who gives a rats rear. The sooner you all come to realize that stocked Trout are GOOD for all involved in fishing except a very vocal and VERY small minority if yoy, the easier you'll sleep at night. Can't ya just enjoy what you have, and they way you want to do it, and let others alone.

P.S. I rarely fsh a stream smaller than the Yough, and wouldn't eat a Trout for anything. I keep a few for my little gals that just love pellethead Trout patties (GASP !!!)

In my opinion, if this world made sense, the fish commission would cut back on stocking trout by 70% and concentrate on rebuilding the populations of other species, and more time fixing the waters in which they swim, bonus: there would be less sunny day ,truck chasing, adult, fisherman looking for that easy catch, plus our children would learn about other species, and why its called fishing and not catching, and if this idea seems irrational to you ,you'd probably think catching them right out of the hatchery would be fine, I read about lakes closing and being drained , more often then rebuilt and improved,how many lakes are doomed just because their dams weaken, if they would focus more money on these waterways rather then stocking them with trout, I think all of us would all be better in the long term

I would agree, but think that 70% is probably too high.

And less truck chasers/opening day only fishermen = less license sales = less money for the PFBC, and we all know that's what it's about for the PFBC.

$

Not to mention most trout hatecheries are massive polluters of streams, and in dire need of upgrading effluent treatment (to the tune of many millions of dollars) or closing all together.

You guy's kill me stop stocking trout. First of all i really enjoy trout fishing i have never went the first day too many idiots. I usually start the 2-3 week after they been picked over. And i must say that i do really well 35 years old and have yet to follow a truck, it's about reading water and casting a line. I fish nothing but nymphs and streamers and average about 500 trout a year catch and release only for me and my son. I was just out fishing this pass weekend with my son and we walked about 4 mile and caught about 20 trout in 9 hours using drys. The boy got to see some beaver ,a snake,a muskart,and a couple snapping turtles. Some people just kill me and their is alot of people that the only time they fish is the first and 2nd day of the season and are done. Or have to follow the truck to catch a fish. But i guess it's whatever gets you off. That would be like saying quite stocking smolts save the commission money they are a waste of time. Yeah okay I love fishing for steelhead just like some may be into bass,muskie,walleye,panfish,catfish,or whatever only. It's my right to fish whatever i want to fish for least i am not out shooting someone robbing some old gram, sticking a needle in my arm, drive dui, or snorting cocaine. I am enjoying what god has created for us. Maybe if some other fathers would have took their kids hunting and fishing when they where little like my father did with me and taught me right from wrong,and manors. Maybe their wouldn't be so much violence that happenes today. I have a 5 year old son that i take fishing with me every time i get a chance too. And remember he's 5 and already has caught a 45 inch muskie helped him land it. a 25 1/4 rainbow on a fly rod. list could go on and on. He dosen't want to sit in his room and play xbox or playstation, Like alot of parents due to get them outta their hair. HE wants to fish. My father is 62 and we still go fishing as much as we can together me my son and my father to me that's a god's gift right their, To be able to do that in it's own. So it's your choice as a person and in life to do what you would like to do, but if your going to complain and bitch about what someone likes to do and isn't hurting anyone and the enjoy doing it and it's 100% legal then ENJOY!!!!! lifes to short remember we only live once. So make the best of the outdoors if your a true 100% outdoors men.

I guess you guys aren't understanding my post. I would never denegrate say a person that is purely a fly fisherman, and a destination one at that, meaning they travel far and wide to have the solitude of wild/native Trout fishing. I do however take exception when these types complain about stockie fisherman. To each his own. The PFBC does a bang-up job with the resources they have. A very small percentage of streams in most regions would be able to thrive with wild Trout. The ones that can, great, quit stocking, I'm all for it. The ones that can't. Let's keep them for the truck chasers, grandpas and grandkids, and the folks that just want to have a general relaxing time on a stream, pellethead or not.

I take it as this. The fish are stocked into the lake to be caught, so they get caught. I have no problem seeing 10 people near the stocking truck, mainly because I understand what it takes to get a child interested in fishing, and who am I kidding I'm a sucker for stocked rainbows as well. To be totally ohnest they should stock more fish in my opinion. It gives the kids more fun & the guy who has no patience at all. Personally "purist" hate stocking because it's so easy. I could catch them blindfolded. But natives (and holdbacks) grant a challenge, match the hatch, find the holes and so on.

I guess if you fish stocked streams you are a truck chaser? HaHA! We're all truck chasers.

The purists crack me up too, and I'm a fly fisherman. Mostly the pomposity of the delivery. It isn't a noble pastime, its freakin fishing. Lots of fun and all, but no need to sound the trumpets at ones own arrival.

At the core, we're realy just tricking fish. If it weren't for all of the peripheral activities like enloying the outdoors and spending quality time with friends and family, we might as well be playing "Got Your Nose!" with a two year old.

well Kind of. What if you fish streams that have holdover trout from stocked trout? hmmm? I agree people (flyfisherman) who come out and enjoy telling people their a purist really do crack me up. They seem so proud and a look of yeah I did that... We're talking about maybe the most simplest and yet enjoyable thing, Fishing. Geeze! Almost everyone is a "truck follower", or my favorite "meat hugger". Perhaps because, like for me, in southwestern Pennsylvania I have to travel 40 minutes to a native stream, yet 12 minutes to a stocked lake that I admit I do enjoy

. If I lived in the mountains it'd be different.. perhaps for the best. BUT like I said fishing is fishing and not everyone wants to spent 10 bucks on gas to get to the native stream, and yet the stocked lake can be just as fun..
