I might be making a big deal about nothing. But Dan set these forums up free out of his own pocket to be helpful to fisherman and especially new fisherman.

I just see some condescending attitudes on here at times. There are alot of people from out of town that honestly don't know alot about this fishery and come here for information. There just seems like there are quite a few posts making fun of these people sometimes in very subtle ways.

The "pier monkey" comment on a another thread yanked my chain a little bit. Trust me, if I could afford a boat I would be out fishing for perch and walleye right now. Ive learned over the years when and where to catch fish from shore from alot of old timers that were willing to help me out. I have alot of gratitude for that. Hopefully someday when I can afford a boat I can find some people help succesfully get into some fish.

Not saying Im right. Just my opnion.


Anyways, right now if your thinking of coming up my suggestion is to fish off the beaches at the stream mouths at sunrise and sunset. Theres a pretty good chance you will get into a few fish. Ive always had the best luck with jigs off bobbers. They are not stacked up but they are coming and leaving inshore at those times.

Status: offline 		Too many people on here forget they once were rookies.  Many of them before the internet or before fisherie.com....I didnt even have internet access when I started fishing Erie tribs 8 years ago...but I and I think most others if we had the oppurtunity would have tried to do some research on the net to find a place to start and maybe some common techniques. 

First trip I heard about Erie steelhead, looked at a map, and called the WCO office for general info.  We tried to go to elk and ended up at Walnut after a stop at a little bait shop called Poor Richards.  I found the only spot on the wall left (didnt even have waders) and casted spoons and threw egg sacs.  I had no clue what I was doing.  Didnt even go back for a year.  Next year my first fish was a 12 lb buck with bright colors that hit a jig that I bought.  I didnt even know how it was supposed to be worked...it hit the water and got inhaled.  Complete luck.  Few years later I was tying my own jigs and landing the big numbers we all do when we finally figure stuff out. 

I gained some good knowledge from this site and I try to provide some as well.  I would say its best to just not respond to newbie's questions instead of downing them.  Most probably havent read that its illegal or immoral to ask a question on the internet about something, especially fishing.

To me, it's not just about catching fish, it's about figuring stuff out!
This is why I like fishing the lake for smallies...it's not just about the catch but learning new spots and figuring out patterns! The feeling of accomplishment is what brings me to spend a god awfull amount of money and time on the sport! 

So if you feel like somebody shouldn't be researching info on these forums, you're missing the main purpose that these forums exist. No matter how an angler goes about their research, whether it's online or onFOOT, we all need to realize not everybody thinks alike and everybody has their own personal reasons they love the outdoors.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy the time you can spend on the water and remember that YOU were looking for the same info at one time or another!

My father use to tell me one thing while fishing....

Bottomline is....Help other people out that need it and quit being so darn competative!!!

Status: offline 		Walnut has a dozen or so fish at the mouth.  About 10 guys fishing. I didnt see any caught but I didnt stay long.  Water is pretty low. Dottie at Poor Richards said a kid caught one while nite fishing.  Winds were off the lake so I didn't even try to wade off the mouths. Its was pretty rough at Avonia. Nice morning drive. Great Coffee at HK Doughnuts!

Status: offline 		Length of day influences wildlife movement more than any other factor. Some numbers of Steel show up by labor day weekend EVERY year, regardless of temperatures, or rainfall. The last two factors basically affect how far upstream they might move, and how long they linger there during daylight hours.

They ALSO miss out on some quality, peacefull fishing that others of us enjoy. So why complain? If they want to WAIT for a report, it's allright with me. More time for the adventurous.

I would love to to get my 5 year old into some Steel this season.

Status: offline 		Figured I'd give it a shot this morning despite the warm temperatures.  I took a 2 for 5, got a little excited on the first couple.  It was nice to knock the rust off for the season.





The streams are starting to get very low, obviously we need some rain.  Stopped at Walnut and I guess a few were landed along the wall, seen around 15 steel hangin' on the southern most end of the wall... although I'm sure there were more in the deeper water.

Heres some pictures of the water level on Walnut.



Alone at the Manchester hole (don't worry, it was void of steel larger than 8 inchs, lol).



Soon as we get some rain, and even just some cooler day-time temperatures the ball will get rollin'.  For now it's slow going.
