Thank you again for responding to my PM ! I will make up four little fly boxes for the kids that do come! I will put a dozen flies in each box. This means that whether I fish in the one fly or not I will see you there on Oct 11th, 2008. Again, I just want to meet some of the guys from this board. Keep me posted on any openings that would occur for me and my buddy. Thank you again and may your fly rod always be bent!

Gentlemen,
I am trying to get the approximate teams together and I have 29 already.  I will list them below.  Now what I would like to know is there anybody who has a preferred teammate other than the ones I have listed?  Also how many newbies need a partner, and how many experienced anglers will volunteer to A:  Mentor a newbie team  or B:  Team up with a newbie for the contest.  If you are mentoring you will still be eligible for all the prizes except the team event since there will be three people on that mentored team.  I figure I will need at least 4 mentors plus me.  Any volunteers will be very appreciated.

THE TEAMS:   Skeeter (my grandson) - fisherofmen  -  Bughawk mentor  Team:  Bamboo
Cold  -  (+1)   newbies - Indsguiz mentor.  Team: 2 New
Erieboogieman - daughter  ( I think this is last years' 2d place team and the female winner)
Bowmandjk  -  grandson
kildeer  -  Wife
Clinchnot  - wife
Fisherchic  -  husband
Mjb4864  -  (+1)
222 - (+1)
Mikastorm - Gizmos
Old Brown trout - Woolybugger
Ax - Dream catcher  (noodlers)  Team:  Flosser
Team:  Portage  (no names)
Avidangler - eye of horus
paxtim - cooljauman   Team:  Tuna
fishmonger - Jayme   Mentor - newbie  (could be a dark horse)
rollcaster -sage 4wt
fishin coyote - worm waster  Last years' winners
Rex-of-Angli - Anadromus
John Hogsett Sr. - Jr.    Team:  Horseflies
Rick Frisco - Dave thomas    Team:   Fly BY
Mook14 - D-nymph    Team:  Lab
MJB4864 - Richie
Gadaboutgaddis - partner
KJH807 - Jokerball
schlemoc - doubletaper
tippy-toe - doughnut #1
doughnut #2  - doughnut #3
Dano -genieman
Mikeg - Essox hunter
Youghman - jamie C.

This list is the list of all the teams I know of, except 2, and I'm waiting on confirmation.  That's a total of 30 teams 60 folks.  WOW!

If there are any other teams that I am not aware of please let me know cause after a few days I'm going to start drawing based on the feedback I get from eveyone.  There will probably be much room for switching right up to the morning of but I'd like to get some idea where we stand.   Thanks guys (and girls).

FYI:  We have had some AWESOME prizes donated and I believe everyone will leave with something , like last year.

If there is an opening from someone not being available, I would like to get on the waiting list.  Either way I plan on making the trip up to see everyone on here and maybe toss a few flies around.

schlemoc,
The best I can tell you right now is to keep watching the boards, come to the Night Before (if you're in the area), and see what turns up.  For the last 4 years we have had about a 8-10% no-show figure so that MAY leave 8 spots open.  But so far we have had no dropouts.  We do have 4 on the wait list right now counting you.

Wonder if I will be the only one fishing a noodle rod with a fly?  Feel free to pair me with anyone you want.  Looking forward to this.  Will be my first fishing trip of the year for Steel.

Indi,
I don't know if this will help as you organize the teams, but I am going to be fly fishing, but still have not landed a steelie with a fly rod.  Ive landed plenty with flies and noodle, but never on the fly rod.  I have only tired it 3 times, then I get frustrated and go back to what I know-noodling.
So if you want to put me with someone who is more experienced, that would be great.
Alex
PS-I'm the guy from the oil creek outing you helped catch a rainbow on the fly rod in less than ideal conditions with the attractor fly.

I'll be doing the same . I like using the noodle to cover more water and not mind the crowds as much . Already got a taste last Sunday pulled 2 steelies from Lower Elk (1- 7lb hen , 1 - 5 lb male) . They are real finicky right now in the high water temps / water clearity but may be coaxed . Lost one fish to some tree branches. Tight lines - DC

Jamey said he'd like to get paired up with someone who knows the area. He only fishes Erie maybe twice a year and not very experienced with the fly rod as well.

I'll be with my wife like you posted.

Jack, this is going to be the biggest and the best. I,m with Gizmo(Tom) , I think. Can,t wait to get on the water again. Bring up the old rod so I can show it to Giz. Thats ok if it isn,t finished, never be used anyhow.  I,m going with a caddis. Slammed them last Jan. on them. No droppetrs allowed , right?

Mika,
I'm having a *&%$# of a time finding a good ferrule.  I'm about to take one from another rod I have to repair (my own).  I want it to be done for the "One Fly".

Personally, I don't really care if I catch anything or lose my fly. I'm just looking forward to a great time. And I promise I won't break it off in the parking lot. LOL

I'm not a newbie. I catch my share. If you want to pair me with someone inexperienced, that would be OK. I know places to go, and can haul someone else and their gear. The only fear that I have is that I normally go through a lot of flies, and I do not have any idea how I'm going to last very long. Give me someone young who can climb a tree for my fly!

PAFISHERMAN1981,

It's an annual thing held (usually) on Columbus Day weekend!  I don't think my nerves could take tyring to organize another one every year.  But there is the Oil Creek outing in the spring.  Keep watching the boards if there are any cancellations I'll post them up.

Could you let me know if anything happens and you need someone?  Do you mind if I come up anyway and observe.  I am new to fly fishing and love it and would love to share the experiences with pro fly fisherman like yourself. Thanks for you time.

Indy,
I'm assuming that's supposed to be Jamey with fishmonger on that team?

Kildeer,
I've had three people mantion a Jamie, Jamey, and Jamey in their replies so I picked one to match up with fishmonger (yours) since fish is very experienced and you said your Jamey needed a partner.  Is there a change?

PAFISHERMAN:  There is always a chance.  I'm sure nobody would mind if you followed and observed and asked questions.

Kildeer,
Fishmonger is a very experienced fisherman who has a lot of good info to impart.  I am very glad he agreed to take an "newbie" and if your buddy Jamey pays atention he could very well wind up in contention.  I tried to match folks up acording to friendships and abilities.  Should be very interesting.
