Cold -> Good Day on the Water! (8/25/2008 12:37:55 AM)

Went out with a friend on his canoe today, and landed this guy...

22" and an estimated 7 lbs.  Put up one hell of a fight and dragged the canoe halfway across the river before it was all said and done.  This after my friend brought a 25" pike to the side of the boat.  Just wanted to share the nice catch with you guys. [:D]

Wow thats a nice bass, congrats!!

Whats with the Pike this weekend? On the Beaver River they were all over and I saw one Musky cruising the surface. I caught one Northern and lost another.

Here is a pic of it.

Nice fish. I went Friday to a friends farm in Greene Co and landed one about same size. Biggest I've caught from his pond, maybe next year it will be 25"+.

I did keep 20 nice gills and one cat that was about 4lbs, have my Labor Day dinner in the freezer.

(I have to get a camera someday), Again, congrats!

Thanks guys!  I'm thinking about sending for a citation.  Anyone ever do that?  I only have the pic I posted here and a few other similar ones...will that be sufficient along with my friend's signature as a witness to a catch & release citation?

Yeah for catch and relase you need a picture and to fill out the form.  I just got mine back for a Smallmouth. The Catch and release ones aren't as nice as the other ones. Seems to me the other ones have a picture of the fish on it alone with the other info. The onese we got just had the length. Catch and relase trophies are figured in inches and not weight.

OK, thanks.  I was hoping they wouldn't reply, "Oh...hmmm...well from that picture, we cant tell if it really is 22" or not...".  At the time I was too excited, or else I'd have gotten a picture of it with the tape across its fat belly.

So...for those of you that have caught steelhead...would the fight be comparable?  I know the steel cant dive as deep in a creek as this thing did, but as far as strength, I'd think they'd be similar.  I thought this one was already hugging bottom, then he took another run and went about 5' deeper!  I'm really glad I always keep the drag set properly on all my reels!

kyler16 -> RE: Good Day on the Water! (8/26/2008 9:02:26 AM)

I feel steelhead fight harder then bass and besides you were using heavier line then youd use steelhead fishing.

Super nice bass Cold!  And as far as the steel fight, I prefer it on a fly rod as compared to a spinning, done both but I think more fun on the fly rod.

Penn Artist is correct, just need a pic and form.

when your comparing the fight between bass and steelies, the bass might have the depth of the water to add to the fight  , dont forget that steelies have the strong current of the creeks to aid them as well,

Here is a link for the fishing awards.  www.fish.state.pa.us/awardapp.pdf

That would have definitly qualified for a trophy one but you have to take it to an official weight station to have that done. I think it kinda sucks in a way but thats the only way people would be forced to be honest. Since I only catch and release (unless it's stocked trout for trapping season) I supposed I'll never get one.

Oh, and before I forget the pic for catch and release has to be from sight the fish was caught at.. as they say on the site. No kitchen or drive way photos.
