top left-at least 3 tippet sizes, and an extra factory tapered leader, top right-floats, yarn, small split shot, bottom left-eggs, eggsacs, skein, bottom right-fly box-assorted egg patterns, jigs, etc, inside pockets-grizzly wintergreen, another fly box with less used items, hothands, and a flask wrapped in tp, quick minnow around my shoulder, net on back and always a rope for that one for the smoker-right on mika!

I keep it pretty simple...  couple fly boxes, tippet, leaders, split shots and floats.  Pair of needlenose pliers and hemostats, just in case I drop one and don't notice.  There's some other good ideas on here for sure.   Might have to add some stuff this season.

I carry the normal fishing gear one would expect to find in a vest.  But, I never forget the most important of all commodities, TP, its like American Express, I never leave home with out it.

Don't forget the medicated wipes...nothing worse than an itchy brown eye while in waders..

I try to keep it simple. I used to have sooooooo much sh!t in my vest my back would hurt after an hour. Now I just keep flys, flouro, weights, indicators, nippers and forceps....oh and a flask of JD, for emergencies

I always have a chap stick...keep the bj comments to yourself Tippy.

The TP and JD are essentials as I always seem to be able to find an emergency.  Even if it is slow day on the stream I can always manage to work up a steamer and nothing like a shot after stocking the brown trout.

Being that all of the land on the streams is owned by somebody...exactly where is everyone taking a dump at?  I know 20 mile was posted above the bridge for this reason....just curious.

I have never had to take one while on the streams but if I need to I think its God telling me its time to call it a day.

I can tell you where I'm not taking a dump... the restrooms at Elk access. And I use the term "restrooms" very loosely

I just bought a new small fly pack, I believe I'm going to be wearing that on my chest, in it will be a big fly box, (I'm a beginner, i don't have many flies, and don't know what to use beyond the basics.) Hemo's, toenail clippers, and a knife attached to a lanyard. Cell phone, allergy medication and other random pills for whatever ails me. Small flask of either Jaeger or JD, mostly of the time jaeger. Minnow dispenser slung over the shoulder.

I'm also going to carry a backpack this time, with drinks, TP, Lighter, and food, maybe some beers if possible.

Snuff, snuff, and more snuff.  As far as the fishing supplies:  floats, 10-16 size daicchi hooks, small split shots, a small arsenal of flies and spoons, and of course egg sacs.  A watch is handy so you don't find yourself fishing to all crazy hours of the day.  That can get you in some trouble at home.

Wow, I have a whole thread on fall steelheading up in a different section, and nobody mentions the "refreshments"!   For my first trip up, if the weather is warmer (60+), I'll prob pre-mix a few bottles of bacardi & coke, otherwise, maybe some DiSaronno in its own bottle (amaretto really takes on the flavor of its container, so I steer clear of putting it in metal or plastic).  If and when it gets REAL cold, maybe a high-end tequila for heat.

Also, some homemade year-old black-raspberry brandy might be in order...

quote:

And to Cold nice suggestion about the cell phone in a zipplock. I also might wrap it in some cloth to absorb the shock if i were to drop it. Mine is always off when im fishin !!! I dont need my peace and quiet being one with the stream interrupted by the ringging of a phone ,but if i need to use it i can turn it on and it will still be dry.

The cloth might not be a bad idea, on the inside of the bag it would stay dry too.  For me, I'd just wrap it around the back though, so I can still check the time, caller ID, and all that good stuff from the little screen on the front.  I usually leave mine on vibrate.  In the  bag, I'll almost always miss a call because I cant get it out in time (even if i want to, which usually I dont).  And I figure if someone really wants to tell me something they can leave me a message.  Still I leave it on just in case of an emergency that I might need to deal with, or a friend with a "hey, we're rocking the <insert fish species> down here at <insert fishin spot> on <insert bait>!!!  You need to get down here!".

And yeah, I've gotten that call a few times.  I have good friends.

One thing I do is always make sure I have a backup of splitshot.  Usually stuffed away in a place I don't normally get into.  You're likely going to have a bad day if you lose all your shot.

Sidepoint- Can anyone recommend a good vest with many pockets?  Hint- Dont bother with Gander Mountain vests, zippers and seems go on every one within a year.  Tried 2.  2nd one was the last.

Tippy,
Are you sure its the water and not the 10 cheesburgers you devour daily?

No vest, but I usually throw a bag of sunflower seeds in.

Right on, man.  Though I dont care for the flavored dust.  Just gimme a bag of regular salt flavored.

Still, they're more of an activity than a food...I could never substitute them for a meal.

they just keep me busy enough and put a little something into my stomach often enough that i could go most of the day without leaving the stream and eating a big meal

although all that salt is prob not good for you....

Well that's why I need to bring the tequila...to dilute all that salt...right?

On a more fishing-related note, anyone else ever have fish surface to nibble on your spit shells?  I've had bluegill take them and swim a few feet before spitting them out.

on a different note how much does your fishing vest weigh? mine 10 lbs. 6oz. there's a lot of lead and brass in that thing.

I have a laptop in my back zipper pocket. This allows me to give updates and pics as soon as they happen creekside. So all the people who rely on the internet to decide on where to fish can come in on my spot.
