I am bringing my son 11 years old  son salmon fishing in mid Oct.  I will be fly fishing but he will be using a spinning rod. What would be a good rod/reel for him to use?
Thanks

Thanks for the info. But I am not sure  my son can handle a 9 ft. steelhead rod, with maybe a penn 440. My older son did fine last year. but he is  bigger. As long as my boys hook up we will all be happy. Last year i told my son to net a fish for some guy up stream. When my son saw the guy was snagging them with a ton of weight just turned and  walked away down stream to fish.

Should have cut his line, freed the fish, then shrugged your shoulders at him!

Sounds like you're teaching the boys right. Amen to that.
I know nothing of spinning gear. This may help?
Check out the info. on the left. There is a ton of info. there. It's how I learned to fish up there.

I have been fishing the salmon river over 20 years and have seen it all.
But there are alot less snaggers.
