The act of of posting the pics it self is not selfish, it's the act of stroking ones own ego that is selfish.  To me posting pics and reports of a good day of extreme early season steelie fishing is a slap in the face to everyone hoping to have the same early season experience because it lessens their chance for said experience.  The early season is all thats left that hasn't been blown wide open by the internet so pardon me if I feel that some things should be left under the "radar."  I know erie gets nutz during the heat of the season, I fished it for years and years but I don't want to see it become a frenzy to early.  And you know as well as I that things happen before the WCO reports them...now everyone does.

Ill catch 30 in the rivers when you catch 30 from your boat in the heat of the season and neither one of us will be alone, at that point in time people can post all the pics they want and it wont bother me a bit.

For the record I now live 1600 mi away from erie so I'm not complaining for my own sake.  I will make it back for some action but it won't be untill the late fall.

Well I have been looking for the post that will bring me back and I think I have found it. Before even looking at the picture I already knew what it looked like. Some young kid who wants his pic on the front page of the paper. Do you want people to think that you are some sort of steelhead God? Do you want to be the one who kicks off the season? Or are you just doing the right thing and let everybody know that steel season has begun? I dont know the reason you did it but I do know what you did. What you did was ruin the piece and quiet for the ones who have already been catching fish at the mouths and in the creeks. I am sure the people that were down there werent saying "Boy I really wish I had some A-Hole in camo come stand in my back pocket and fish." You are young and have alot to learn. I am not going to get into the mortality rate of these fish caught so early in the season. Like they were going to get put back anyway, so whats the difference. I hope all had a nice summer. Its good to be back PA. Shut Up and Fish, you are the man! Anadromous, you dont nead a passport to cross the border come on over dont be afraid. BTWG its going to be a long season dont flame out. There is one more guy I would like to say whats up to. You know who you are.

Swinger,
Sorry I didn't get to Ohio. Its been a hell of summer...skirting blew off the trailer, kid broke his arm on the trampoline(told him a hundred times to stay off of the dry rotted side).Brother in law took my window mounted air conditioner and hocked it to buy a pay-per-view wrestling event. Pissed me off so bad that I poked holes in their scooby-doo swimming pool...eye for and eye I always say. You roast me out I"ll roast you out. Probably did him a favor though because his kid stopped getting those nasty sinus and ear infections, although he was getting pretty good at writing his name in the algae on the sides. I shouldnt make fun of the kid, he's just your normal teenager. He is a strong kid though..he helped me put a 350 "chivy" in an  old Nova I had sitting around.Hell he can lift the block all by himself. He was hell on my trampoline though and I still think he's the one that busted through the particle board that i had around our sunken tub in the bed room. Its still there but you gotta step way down into it now. The only good thing is I will be able able to soak like pickled egg while I insulate the pipes on that end of the Ole" Palm Harbor...been 70 feet of bliss for me. Of course its the last 14 feet that I got the most bliss from...me and the Mrs. call that the "love nest" and if the weeds grow any higher through that hole in the particle board , it will be a nest!!! Anyhoo, How the hell you been there Schwiiinger??????

Anandromous: "I realize than pride made you post those pictures...."

Pride is often considered the foremost vice in Christianity, since it is contrary to love of God. As Christian thinker and writer C.S. Lewis, "According to Christian teachers, the essential vice, the utmost evil, is Pride. Unchastity, anger, greed, drunkenness, and all that, are mere fleabites in comparison: it was through Pride that the devil became the devil: Pride leads to every other vice: it is the complete anti-God state of mind."

There is also the thought that "show a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime."

This thread clearly proves pride is a vice. It has shown none how to catch a fish but merely boosts Steelkings idea of his prowess and screen name. Hope you feel that your chest is bigger. If I'd been lucky enough to catch what you did, I'd have kept it to close confidants.

Next is greed....

Sin is sin, no matter what the magnitude right?  I sure don't think anyone has sinned here.

Holy crap I didnt think this would come to a fire and brimstone sermon.  Fisherie has officially jumped the shark.  This thread should be removed it's an embarrassment to all who run this site and to us, the fishermen.

Steelking,

Nice catch.  I made the same mistake a few years back.  Posting a pic of an early fish.  I guess I will join you in hell for our numerous sins that these acts have involved.

Didn't the bible say something about judging people, Gobyking?

And does your name not have the same sinful pride in it?

Also, for a Christian throwing out stones you sure make some messed up comments on this site.

Last thing....can everyone who has made any negative comments on this thread take a breath and realize that all this guy did was catch some fish?  Most of us have caught thousands of these.  I've said it before and it proves truer every post...many here have the worst case of fishing penis envy on the planet.

Thanks Joe... I haven't logged on all weekend and came back to this mess. It's rediculous. People posting from 1600 miles away who aren't going to fish the Tribs till who knows when.. if at all. It's totally asinine. Some of you people need to get off your high horses.

Steelking... keep doin what you're doin man. Great pics.

I was at the wall on Sunday AM around 11:00 with the wife and kid just looking around and all I saw was 4 real young kids fishing in the chanel above the launch.  Wow let me say this post just overloaded walnut!!!!

Way to go Steelking!  If I wouldn't have been so lazy (or inebriated) I may would have been down there at night trying.  But still a little early for me.  Although Labor day weekend I will be on the wall at some point.

Nice early fish Steelking!

It's ashame you can't post a pic around here without getting beat up!

If you know anything about fishing steel in Erie than you know that there are some fish at the mouth this time of year! So why would anybody be worried about posting a report about it?

Infact, I caught some fish there LAST WEEK! It's gonna be a looooong season!

I am an online minister, you need to be saved SteelKing.

Just kidding, I don't even fish for steelhead, but found this thread very entertaining.

Joe you sure seem to care what people think on the internet. My screen name is a joke since no one fishes for gobies and you shouldn't take everything so seriously.

Posting pictures is a personal choice that some take great pleasure in and others see as a self promoting act.  We all need to remember that each person has different motivations for their actions and just because one person chooses to do something that you personally would not do, that does not make them a bad person.

For me the thrill is in hooking and fighting the fish.  I could care less if I get my picture taken with the fish.  I don't have any need to show the world what I did, but there are people who like to bask in the glow of landing a steelhead, feel proud on their accomplishment and want to share their special moment with the world.  If they want to show the world they caught a fish that is their business.  If it makes them feel special, then we should encourage that.

As for telling the world about steelies in the stream, that again is a personal choice.  I learned a long time ago that bragging on catching steelies in Erie will draw a lot of fire and now choose to be very careful about what I report.  Some folks are young and have not had the privilege of experience to know that saying less is most often a better way to go.  They will learn.

So everyone enjoy the fishing.  Post your pictures if you want.  Show us your big smile and how proud you are of landing a steelie.  We will all treasure the images as we do of any athlete who has gone the extra mile and done their best.  After all landing a steelie is something not everyone can do and puts you into an elite group of fisherman.

I think that sums it all up Bughawk.  Perfectly said.  Like I said earlier there are plenty of steelhead for everyone.  Some people need to take a deep breath and relax and just be glad we have the oppurtunity to catch these awesome fish.

Since fishing began it is everyone's right of passage to hold up a fish and smile even it was caught purely for food.  Pulling fish out of the water with a lure or bait is the closest thing we can get to a magic trick.  Even people who dont fish think its pretty cool.  When the camera came along probably one of the first pictures taken was one of some guy holding a fish.  It's the same pose everytime but it never gets old for most people.  For me fishing is the whole process from start to finish.  From finite details to making a spread from smoked fish.  Included in all of this sometimes is a picture.  Maybe my kids and grandkids will look at it someday.  I love seeing my grandfather's king salmon and steelhead from Oregon I know that.  A picture is a lot of things, or a thousand words.  But it's never something that should be scorned at if it involves someone holding up a fish.

There's Steelhead in Erie ??????? Who would have thought ? I am going to start taking pic's of everything I catch in the lake erie region and post every chance I get. I will also give away the spot - time - and conditions (even directions if needed IE.....GPS). I am so sick of these freaking moronic "Lake erie Steelhead" fishermen. Steelking - Great pic and a beautiful fish to start off the season. I too am young and choose not to follow "my generation" in their activites. I choose fishing - For the pure love of the sport. It is great to see guy's out there my age that are proud of a nice fish. I am beginning to think our generation is a lot more respectful that older ones. What a load of crybaby's - absolutely pathetic ! Once again - Absolutely pathetic ! The same older people that preach on here about freedom of speech are wanting to shut everyone up. What a bunch of hipocrites ! No wonder the younger generation shy's away from fishing - they don't want to deal with these A**holes. I hope the creeks are full this year - elbow to elbow. I'm going up to Walnut this weekend to do some scouting. Be assured - I will post pic's of everything I see and give locations. After all, aren't the fish there to be caught ? F@$*ing Whiners !

Steelking - GREAT job and pics!

To those who came to his defense - Slainte Mhath!

To steelking's detractors (supposed ADULTS):

1. It is not about what YOU would do;
2. It is not about what YOU want to see; and
3. It is not about how YOU interpret steelking's motivitations

It is about commonwealth fishing.

Nice fish, glad to see a pic. Gotta love catching them in a T-shirt.
Don't worry about the bashers, like you said the NUT is no secret. Now if you hiked 5 miles in a mountain stream and caught 10 native brookies that were 9-10" and posted the exact location, then I would probably put my two cents in too. But nothing wrong(in my opinion) with what you did.
