UPDATE ON THE FISHERMANS COVE THEFT

My buddy had the catalytic converter replaced yesterday at a cost of about $330 by a shop in Mercer.  What is interesting is how the thieves stole his.

Apparently they wrapped a chain around the converter from the front of the van then just used their vehicle to yank it out from under the van.  (we had seen marks in the dirt but didn't associate them to the theft)  The replacement would have cost only a couple hundred $$'s but they bent the pipe coming from the manifold as well.   I mention this because this method of stealing could actually cause a lot more body damage to the front end of some vehicles.

Real low lifes here.  For such a small sum to them they could cause thousands in damage.

Yep, meth addicts do alot of thefts, but actually in this area it is the heroin and pill addicts. All they do is steal and scap to fund their habits.

What does scap mean?  Or did you mean to write scrap?  Just wondering if scap is something new.

Sorry.......should be scrap.........

The anal pore  that I found out robbed my truck also broke the side window out of my neighbors car to steal change in the cup holder.

Thought I'd pass on what I learned today.  The scraper in Slippery Rock along with PA State Police watch for what appears to be stolen parts or other metals. They have checked many loads and have a list of people turning in catalytic converters and other strange items (such as brass statues).  Looks like they are taking it seriously here.  Hope they are in other scrap yards.

One other items I'm told is that some of these catalytic converters do not have the precious metals some of th eolder ones do so some of the ones being stolen can't be sold for big bucks.

Local cemetaries are having trouble with the brass pots set at grave side for flowers & such.  They have lost over 200 this year
