Last trip up to elk I ended up with a leak in the boot portion of my bootfoot waders. I found a small air leak at one of the the lace rivets and patched it. Went out to a local dahlo area yesterday and still have a leak but it moved over a couple of inches on the boot.

Does anyone know if the built in boots are intended to be waterproof. I know the inner neoprene bootie must also have a leak and if so how in the world do you find it since you can't turn them inside out like the boot less types.

I'm thinking the boot part would allow water inside so no matter where I patch a leak on the outside of the boot water will still leak through the bootie material. Any suggestions?

Neoprene is not necessarily waterproof, especially if there is a seam involved. So you really are relying on the outer part of the boot to be waterproof. A leak does not have to be very big to let water in. So you may have another leak other than the one that you see. Here is a tip that I have used. Clean the boot real well and then give it a dusting of baby powder. Next, fill the boot with water from the inside up with a hose as high as you think you might have a leak--at least to the knee. It won't be long before you see the leak.

Now you do have to dry out the inside of the boot again, but you already had that problem.

Remember that a sweaty foot can also feel like a leak. I just hiked 4 miles in breathable waders and my legs were wet to the knee, even though I had not been in that deep of water. The colder the water, it seems the more condensation.

If the leak is just wet, but not literally filling with water, maybe just wear a pair of neoprene socks in the wader?

Depending on who makes your waders, you may be able to trade em in for, or toward, a new pair.

I have a pair of Orvis waders (i know, i know), and they sprung a slow leak in the back of my left knee. The fly shop where I get them sent them back for me to get repaired, and when I checked back a few days before a fishing trip, they called the HQ and determined that they'd gotten lost in the mail, so they gave me a pair of brand new ones, right then and there, for free.

The boots are certainly intended to be water proof or they wouldn't be attached to a product design to keep your lower units dry...(not being a smart azz) You obviously have a problematic leak. You might try taking wader repair cement and running a bead of it over all seams. Allow to dry and give it another go...otherwise it's time for replacement. good luck.
