Guys and gals,
I learned on this trip that you get what you pay for. I unfortunately own a Cabelas CSR4 fly reel. The drag sucks and when a gob of line comes out sometimes it gets hung up on either the reel handle itself or as i found out yesterday the little knob on the right side too.(both have caused me a fish now). I have vowed not to have this problem next year. My question to you is what kind of reel do you reccommend that wont break me? or does anyone have one that they may want to get rid of because they dont go anymore.

Thanks

CP

Orvis Large Arbor! It has worked great for me in Erie and the Salmon River. The drag is excellent.

Fly Logic FLP  --Premium reel......890
Fly Logic FLO --  optimum  789
Fly Logic FLP  --premioum reel 567

cheap ( 100 bucks or so for the FLP) and plenty of backing capacity and most of all---a great drag system
USA Company
Pretty much the only reels I have used in the last 8 years or so...............tried others, but always ended up back with my trusted fly logic product

the 567 loaded with 7 or 8 wt line is a great choice for keeping your reel light on a 7 or 8 wt set up---I have used this reel with a 7 wt line in the past few years for steelies.......landed plenty of kings with this reel also.......now I have 8 wt line on the FLP 567, 7 wt line on a FLO 789 and 9 wt line on a FLA 8..........my dad uses the FLO 789 with 10 wt fly line

my other big reel is a LOOP CLCW that I have a 10 wt Salmon/steelhead fly line on..........matched to a 9/10 Beulah 10.5 foot long switch rod

My buddy had a CSR as well and took it back.  Drag was not suitable for the kings.  We have the SR now and it is much better.  We hooked into a couple of kings this past weekend and the reels performed perfectly.

You got to buy the line but they will throw in the backing unless you want gel spun backing, then you got to pay a bit extra. They also set it up and have it all ready to go for you.
