Last time I was there was late May, and I saw 3 water snakes.  That was more than enough to send chills up my back, they are not my favorite critter...

Snakes are the only reason you are able to fish without being run off by the mosquitoes.  I suggest you leave them be as they eat there weight in mosquitoes, and help us out while we are fishing!  If you try and kill them...I hope you get bitten!

Sweet Jeez guys... F'in leave your man-card at the door, why don't ya? Afraid of snakes? Wishin' that all snakes were dead? All part of nature as far as I'm concerned.

Very true Brookie.  They sell bug spray to stop mosquitos.  They only sell bullets or shovels to kill snakes.

Cool...  I hope that makes you feel better.  Someone remind me not to feel bad if someone backs up over you someday.

i cant understand why so many people dislike snakes.  i've probably encountered thousands of snakes over the years both venomous and non-venomous ones, and i have never encountered an aggressive snake.  every snake i've every come across has bolted in the opposite direction.  just leave them alone and they will leave you alone.  if it werent for snakes look how many more rodents you would have running around.  have you ever heard of a snake spreading disease?  i never have, but the same cant be said about rodents.

If you see a couple, there are a hundred more that you didn't.

The only snake that ever realy scared me was some type of black cobra. An exotic pets place called The Serpantarium had one and it was bone chilling. If you came near its tank the thing would move toward you, eye you up and start to open its hood. The shop keeper said that the thing was one of the only agressive snakes in the world, and very deadly.

Water snakes are harmless, I think its cool to see them! Saw bunches of them up at Tionesta creek last season.

When i lived in NC i used to fish the Haw River near Chapel Hill. Walking up the river edge in the spring for the white bass run you could easily count cottonmouths by the dozen.

Our apartment complex was overrun with copperheads one summer. Beautiful snakes, but a little too plentiful and bold for my liking.

AMEN!  Do we have a bunch of weenies on here or what?  I'll take a snake or two over rats or mice any day.  I've never in my life been attacked or threatened by a snake.  I've never seen one that was agressive towards me in any way.  You wanna kill something on sight?  Kill roaches.  At least snakes have some redeeming value.

Can not say I like snakes,  But I will leave them alone.  I usually do not see them till I am right on top of them.  Startles both of us.  They have there place.

True story: Their was a family who owned a pet boa constricter and they seemed to think it was a good idea to let the snake sleep with their 3 year old son. The parents grew concerned because the snake stopped eating so they decided to take it the vet. The vet asked the folks about the snakes habitat and sleeping habits. They informed him they allowed the snake to sleep with the 3 year old. The vet then asked if the snake sleeps curled up or stretched out. The parents said well its funny u ask that because he used to sleep curled up but since he stopped eating the snake has been sleeping stretched out. The vet said u need to get rid of that snake now! He informed the parents that their beloved pet boa was sizing up their 3 year old to see if he could swallow him up and the reason he stopped eating was for the large meal he was prepping for. SMART FOLKS HUH?

Nice to see some true sportsman on here. What we know about Brookie1...

Gay screen name.

Pansy- afraid of snakes.

Likes to kill things due to illogical fear and ignorance.

Last words before he dies bound to be the following...

"Hey guys, watch this!"

Whatever dude, what does killing snakes have to do with a sportsman?
I just kill off the excess to make sure the don't get in abundance. I am
sure I leave a few.

Love it "dude" - you keep yappin and simply prove my point.

You think that wanton and needless killing of animals and being a true sportsman are unrelated? Nice- solid logic.

Here's a quote you might take to heart...

I've come across lots of snakes of all kinds.

I got this thing, if I kill a snake purposely, it'll come back around to bite (no pun intended) me.

I think snakes are feared because they are so different.. no legs, etc.. they certainly serve a purpose in nature and I don't believe they should be killed.

The most I ever saw was 11 in one day fishing some swampy ponds.  All water and garders.  I saw 11 rattlesnakes last year, only one fleed.  The rest rose up, ready to strike, some rattled, some didn't.  Watch your step!!
