Status: offline 		getting ready for my b-day.  new rod gonna make its home with me soon.  would like to know what brand and size spinning rods you guys prefer for steelies.  appreciate any input and thanks.

Status: offline 		i got the gandermountain 11ft6 love it ive had salmon on it just have to play them out 10lb steelies just fine 8lb test and lots of line for salmon go to 10 or even 12 and plan on a hand full ill trool with the rod with a spoon or stick or rooster stick streight out lite drag and im slammin fish just turn down the raido down hard to hear the ziiiinggg of the reel spooled a few times oops  cheers

Status: online 		10'6" St Croix Medium Light
Works good to pull in salmon and light enough to finese steelhead.
I use a Okuma reel spooled with 8 lb fireline and attach anywhere from 6-3 lb leader onto it.
fireline holds chapstick or dry fly float wax well in the winter months to keep your
line from icing up too.

Status: offline 		DON'T get the Silstar Lexus.  First one I had the tip broke while I was pulling line off the reel.  Should have learned my lesson, but I'm a sucker for cheap.  Second one snapped right above where the two pieces insert a few months ago while I was lifting a 10 inch trout out of the water.

My expensive Lamiglas did the same thing.

I contacted Lamiglas about replacing my broken rod.
They said the warranty was only 1 year.
For a spinning rod with a retail price of almost $400 and an online price of over $200 this is a very poor warranty.
They did offer to replace it for $45 +$20 shipping which is not too bad I guess.

Here is their response:
If you want to send the rod in the directions are listed below. Most of these rods only came with a one year warranty so the replacement would be $45.00 plus the $20.00 for return shipping and handling, If you think your rod is older than a year than it would be ok to try and fix it yourself.

Please send your entire rod in a disposable container to the address listed below. Include a brief note explaining how the rod broke with your return address, phone number, and $20.00 for return shipping and handling. Be sure to insure your package properly. We will determine Warranty or Non Warranty upon inspection of the rod. We will call if we need any additional information.

Status: offline 		i broke mine on a big carp went to store and free replacement cost of rod $40.00 bucks my friend got a 10ft 6 and he broke his same thing store gave him a new one tried to horse the fish carp get uglyer over 20lbs

I have had one of those (silstar Lexus) I use for fishing holdover trout (decent sized ones i must say) in local streams for about 2 years now. I bought it because it was cheap and would be good for rummaging through the woods and to have as a backup. Mine hasn't broke. I have seen a Lamiglass break at the store once before, although I bought my father a Lamibglass 3 years ago, and his is still kickin. I think one thing that anyone needs to keep in mind is that these 'noodle' roads are very fragile. Any slight defect causes by a manufacturer or even ourselves can cause them to break.

Status: offline 		tommy, i have a bunch of premiers and an avid spinning rods, but i thought that i might be able to get by with something a bit cheaper.  not junk though.  thought possibly a rod under a hundred bux so i could spend more on a reel.

Status: offline 		i've had the lexus for 5 yrs now and it's been very good to me.  handles fish from bluegill to bass to steelies with ease.  best low end rod i've bought.

Bought an inexpensive set up from this sites' sponsors (Fish USA) and even though I won't name the type of rod/reel it has been very dependable for over 4 years now.  No bells or whistles but very capable.  Call the store and see what they can set you up with.

I am not as rich as I once thought I was-so probably not
My Lamiglas is 11 1/2 foot and I would probably never buy one that length again either.
The 1 or 2 feet you get over a 9.5 or 10.5 only makes a small difference when casting very light lures.
I don;t know why but I seem to catch that rod on branches when casting and carrying it stream side.
I might only have a 10' attention span.
And it would not fit in my tool box or behind seat!

I think unless you are an expert the difference between an $80 rod and a $200 or $400 rod is nil.
Compare the Gander rods to the ST Croix,that is what blanks were used a few years ago-now who knows.
Some were component for component the same as a G Loomis- I think this is the Competitor series that is now discontinued

The Okuma Connoisseur
Salmon/Steelhead Spinning Rods at FishUSA is also a good rod that is inexpensive

Status: offline 		ive used a coustom rod and a cheap end rod that a bluegil can bend in 2 the gander guid rod seem to be in the middle and as i said wen the fish spook longer is better but you do get hung up  in trees and if its on the boat tough to land with some nets on a windy day all the rods and reels ive got i told the wife i was getting a few more linecounters wow i would have done better saying i was getting a girlfriend it may have gone better

Status: offline 		Custom build on a Batson Rainshadow IST series blank.  I have a 9 foot and a 10'6" and both are awesome.  If your budget is 200.00 or more than you need to go custom.  Get it how you want and have the peace of mind that it was built by a dedicated craftsman not a 14 year old asian girl working for 23 cents a hour.

Status: offline 		I have used the same 39.99 cortland 10ft 6 for 13 years now before that there was not a whole lot of noodle rods even available,good to me although i have gone through several shimano reels over the years but i really still like my 20 plus year old daiwa tournament 1300ss 100s of steelhead salmon kokes etc to its credit.even though i am surrounded by loads of great gear i still like my old time rod.

Status: offline 		found a 10.5 lamiglas at gander mt. for 80 bux.  it's a medium light, but it sure be a nice rod.  am leaning towards this with a symetre or stradic.  for you experienced steelheaders, is this too much rod?

Status: offline 		Make sure the line weight and lure weight is right for what you plan on fishing with.
A rod made to throw a 1/4 to 3/4 oz lure might be too stiff to throw a 1/32 oz mini foo etc.

Status: offline 		marty, i didn't even think of that.  have read a few posts and talked to some guys who like a bit stiffer rod to land fish faster.  most of my fishing will be with spawn or jigs.  maybe i should go with a 10.5 noodle.  talked to a young feller at fish usa who told me about the cortland rods.  this may be an option.

I like one in the 6-12lb range and use 8lb Powerpro with a 4 or 6lb fluorocarbon leader 18" to 4'

Status: offline 		would i have any problems drifting a float and jig or spawn and shot with that 10.6 medium light lamiglas steelhead rod.  the tip section is definately softer, but the butt has a bit more muscle than my noodle rod.
