Can anyone tell me what a snubber is for? does it go before or after the diver? I have used the dypsys without a snubber , someone said I need one. Thanks

I dont use them. It goes after the diver to take up some of the shock to your line from a hard strike. Some people use them all the time and some only for larger species of fish like steel head, lake trout and salmon. I gues its personal preference. But its not madatory that you use them.

Nope not a mandatory thing to have, but they help in my opinion..

When using braided line to your dipsy there is little if any "give" when a fish hits.  The snubber behind the dipsys gives slightly on the strike as well as while reeling in preventing you from ripping hooks outs.  Ive brought in walleyes where the hooks have fallen out in the net, as well as where they were literally hanging by a thread of flesh on the hook, without the snubber I would assume those fish would have been long gone.

Snubbers are great for rookie reelers as well....

Best brand by far of snubbers i have found are made by amish outfitters.  Its surgical tubing with 130lb spectra in between. instead of rubber.

I don't use snubbers behind dipsies when I'm walleye fishing on Erie.

When fishing for King Salmon on Lake Ontario, you should use a snubber. It's like a shock absorber.

This is why you use snubbers, especially on wire divers...

i stopped using snubbers and for the salmon aaaa that is a call thing ive boated a lot of steelies on braid but i never ran wire with dips it has no stretch and have boated fish on onterio without snubbers and 20lb takle loose drag  let the fish run a little slow down  or keep it the same any way you can get another strike just a idea and always use good snaps not jstyle use lockers

Can't wait for them kings -- we're heading up to the Oak on the 29th to fish the weekend.  It'll be the first time for kings in about 3-4 years and we're taking a rookie too.  Can't wait to have those reels screaming drag...

I've used them for years on the walleye and found them to be a great asset to the overall catch ratio.  However, are they as effective for the Kings?  I plan on going up some in a couple of weeks and have been debating on whether to use them or not.  I'm quite afraid the Kings may actually break them.  Any thoughts on this?

I think if your worried about the snubbers breaking Shut UP you must be usint the Luhr Jensen ones.  Go to www.AmishOutfitters.com and take a look at what they have.  They have 2 sizes, even make em for planer boards...lol

They have 130lb Spectra braid in between the swivels incase of a failure.  I have had some of their snubbers for 5 or 6 years and they are still in great shape...

Yeah CB, I have the Luhr Jensen ones for walleye.  I'm not sure they'd hold up for Kings....I've been thinking about making my own....I once saw a site on how to make them, but since cannot find it...maybe pghmarty can help...the linkmaster!

Later.

Yes storm warning is right too OPTI makes some strong snubbers too..They make one hell of a snap swivel as well.

Pretty much all you need is some very large stainless swivels, some surgical tubing, 130lb spectra, and some zip-ties and you could be off to the races!...

Let me know if you start making them...I might even go in on it with you....
