Hello I am running a 25hp four stroke on a 17' smoker craft. It is a console steer and with gear fuel and two people it only goes 10 mph. If anybody is running something similar or has any advice on making it faster it would be greatly appreciated. I put a hydrofoil on it didnt seem to help

How are you propped? What are your RPM's at wide open throttle and about how much does the boat weigh normally loaded.

What model and year?
Sounds like it is a deep v with a high freeboard.Might just not have enough motor with that weight.

Look in the service manual for the tach connection-if you don't have one, get it.
It will save you a lot of time and money.
This may help:

PS: Don't forget to set tach for the number of cylinders and 4 stroke

a 10p prop sounds too steep for a boat of that weight.  I'm running a Lund of similar length and weight, actually a bit heavier.  I only get 6-8mph with my kicker (20hp 4-stroke w/8p prop.)

Look at the back of the boat with the motor trimmed all the way down, see if the cavitation plate is about the same elevation as the bottom of the hull.  You may have hung the motor too low.

I have a similar set up, with a 16 foot deep v boat. Check the things the other guys are saying, but what you are getting sounds about right to me.
