What is the biggest carp you guys have caught in the past few years? I have never really tried for carp, but have caught a few while catfishing with worms. Anywhere between 5 to 20 pounds nothing too big.

I caught my biggest carp last summer while smallie fishing the Lower Niagara River.  It was only 19# but, in that current, it seemed much bigger.  Had to chase it cause it was going to spool me.

Depending on how fat or thin it was anywhere from 8 to 14 pounds. 10-12 would be the most likely weight. Must have been a heck of a fight on 2 lb test. There is a mulberry tree on the bank of a canal where I like to fish in the summer. Great fishing there, the carp, some quite large sit underneath it waiting for the fruit to fall. Just grab a few fruit and place one on your hook, toss it under the tree and wham... I have goofed off before and used 2 lb test to just to see if I could land some of the bigger ones. With a big enough spool, it can be done. In my opinion, carp fight better than most fish.

my reel capacity is 300 yds, pretty good for an ul reel. i have an old broken 10' now 7 1/2' noodle rod that helps land the larger fish. you definitly can't horse em in.

anzomcik, looks like that's a grass carp? Did you hook it or whack it with a bow?

I shot it with my bow. it is funny i was drifting it to a school of them and i got ready to shoot, and they spooked. This one parted from the group and came back in to the small bay. I didnt want to shoot this one because it looked smaller than the rest of the group, but i shot anyway. Needless to say it was larger than i thought and after it pulling me around the lake for a while i boated her. The scales are like 1 1/2 dia. It was really cool.

I caught one at Shawnee lk in bedford county had to be over 40 inches weight not sure but I caught it on a 7inch floating Rapala fishing with a 7ft musky rod 25lb test and it took all the rod and I could give to land it, and yes it did hit the lure it was not snagged.
