have read where people are driving less and driving smarter and because of this we are using less gas.  i drive 25 miles to work each day, across three different 4 lane highways.  i set my cruise at the speed limit and pretty much stay in the right hand lane.  throughout my commute, i see a steady stream of pickups, suvs, cars and semis passing me.  some are going 20 mph over the speed limit.  are these the same moronis that complain about the price of gas?

Not a Hybrid Its an old 89 Civic with 130,000 Miles on it  I keep her tuned up and well maintained  The only problem I have is the body..  I need to let it go but with the gas prices the way they are she might just get a paint job this year....

yea honda civics always were good on gas,had an old beatum civic back in early 80's,no suspension, but great on gas,,,i do see these moroons going 15to 20 over speed limit, and yes thay probably are the ones that complain the most, i drive an 04 bonneville to work, at 65 mph ,i get about 22 mpg,,at 63 mph ,i can avg about 28 mpg, so guess where i set my cruise, not bad for a full size car

It used to be, back in the day, a car got it's best MPG at about 70-75 miles per hour.  Not so, these days.  Wife traded SUV for Toyota Corolla.  Right now the payment eats up any gas savings, but once it's paid off (by then gas will be 6-7 bucks a gallon), I'll really see the difference.

Rap, do you get better gas milage on cruise control? I never did with my wife's vehicles. This was about 15 years ago. (we have it now on our vehicles but don't use it). I would just go along 60-65 and take it easy going up hills on the highway and coasting down the big hills. With the C/C, it would downshift constantly on hills to maintain speed.

oth, i live in the flatlands of eastern ohio.  youngstown-warren.  very few hills at all.  if i don't use cruise, i find myself accelerating with the traffic.  not sure if it is better for me, but i know everyone flying by me is getting worse gas mileage.

Rap, nice to have flatland for gas milage. All mt/hills around here.

Most of the people speeding past me are in larger vehicles=with less mpg. Going an extra 10-15mph does suck up a lot more gas. Takes a litttle longer so I leave a little earlier for long trips. It all adds up....

I agree. Gas is still 4.10 to 4.40 a gallon in the city. The second the light changes, people nail the gas. Not I , I get alot of tailgaters, but my little car only cost me 50? a week in gas. I also seem to get better gas miles on the highway doing 65. I could be wrong , but it seems that way. Its bushes fault.

I drive 63 one way every Mon-Fri, PT Cruser with 5 speed. If I stay 62-63 MPH, get about 32.5 to 33 MPG. And I do limit my evening driving.

No way you can average 28 MPG on a car that the sticker says it averages 22 MPG on the highway at best. BS again Rock. Your getting 22 MPG at BEST.

I'm driving 60 miles one way and the truck I have to drive to carry all my logging equipment gets 18 MPG..
Not much traffic but a lot of back roads and hills...Sure cuts into the profit at the end of the week..
