For all you who have responded to my post last night, thank you for replying. How does August 24 look for everyone? Lets try to fish the Eureka area! Have never fished this area before but I am sure it will fish real good. 71Gto can be our guide for the day!! What time should we meet? I would have to be back home for a prior comittment around 4 in the afternoon. Does this date work for everyone? Please post and discuss and let me know!

Gadabout,

Saturdays are bad for me, except for early in the morning, I usually fish 6 AM til 11 AM on Saturdays. Sundays are a different story, I will spend the entire day on the river. So you guys let me know if you still want to do Aug. 24th. I can show you how to fish that area of the river if you want to get there that early.

Easy to find.  Just come down Route 51 from town about 40 miles.  Send me a PM and I'll email you directions.  I could even meet you up on route 51 and you can follow me to the fishing hole.

Well, looks like we are getting some reaction here which is good. Anyone coming from the Pittsburgh area? Let me know, I would be willing to do a car pull! What time would we like to go down to this area? 71 Gto, you don't mind showing some of us this area do you? As for the fishing I am a flyrod guy. Spinning gear is ok to use too! All fisherman are welcome! Sundays work best for me! Looks like we have a plan! We have a couple of weeks to get this together. Lets make this happen. Anyone can E-mail me and I will compile a list of who wants to go. Way to go guys!!!

If it is Sunday the 24th I will be there also.  Grew up on the river.  Just ask 71GTO showed him how to lay the smack down last Sunday.  Although he did cacth the biggest snag I saw in a while a nice 18 inch smallie that he thought he was snaged on for a good 5 minutes. lol

Guys this river is no secret so I am sure 71 and myself wont mind showing you some of the better spots to fish.  Eureka is a great place to start and it has plenty of room to accomodate everyone going so far.  And if it doesnt I know a few spots real close to there that I know are still holding Trout and bass.

I need to fish early like 71gto too.  I will be down there by 6AM on the 24th.

Is this by boot or boat?  If boot, I MIGHT be able to head down in the afternoon.  West to the Yough instead of north to the Conemaugh might be nice for a change.

How close to the vehicles is the hole?  If it's close I may start out with the flyrod (would be my 5-6th day using it, ever), otherwise, I'll just be fishing ultralight.

Ax, a few days ago you mentioned still getting trout. What were they hitting? We are probably going to try it this weekend.

Nightcrawlers is what I was getting them on.  I am sure they would still be hitting alll your normal baits though.  I like to use crawlers now cause you never know what your going to catch.  Shiners are just a pain in the arse if you ask me.

If you want to pick up trout stop at a pet shop and buy powerworms.  Best bait for trount in August.

No need to waist money on power worms.  Or super worms as I know them to be called.  When crawlers put around 80 trout in the boat last weekend (I know I couldnt believe it either).  And then another 15 or so to hand on the next day.  This was from two different spots in the Smithton stretch.  Just need to know where to find the fish is all.

Deep holes after riffles is the ticket.

As the water levels drop at this time of year the trout seek out the deeper colder holes.  There is alot of trout left in the Yough.  Look for small, cool feeder streams too.  At this time of the year though, the bass is where the action is.  This is probably the best month of the year to catch smallies on flies.  I've lost almost all of my winter tied smallmouth flies by now.
