Even the most rotten, half dead, fins falling off, boot can piss all over the fight of Erie mutt steelhead. Big bastards are just tackle smashing machines... Ugly as sin, so terrible tasting even a starving cat wouldn't go near them,  but big time fun. Oh wait.... I forgot about mid-winter steelies and their blazing, tackle busting runs . They don't call em' KINGS for nothing boys.

I will be all over those browns in 3 weeks. Looking to get one over the 15lb mark with a big kype and nice color for a mount. Those browns get so beautiful when they run. The turquois blue on their cheeks. the fire orange sides and their shear power make them addictive sport. I love any Brown unless its from Cleveland.

Well funny thing is that alot of the Lake O guys would say u can keep the salmon they want the steel!  If I only catch one salmon a year thats plenty for me!  But the steel in lake O (Bigger and Meaner) are alot different than the lake erie steel (Samller but more plentifull)!!  The browns buy far are my favorate fish to catch on lake O!

Thats cuz most of the guys want to fill the fish boxes for theirt clients and thats much easier to do with the steel once the lake thermoclines set up during the summer. Although Lake O steel put Erie's to shame, Kings take work and alot of it to catch consistently. I'll take 3-4 20+ Sharks all day as opposed to 25 steel....  I can agree with the Browns though. There are some real slobs that come roaming around in November.

Whats realy a shame is all the 3/0 to 5/0 single hooks you have to pull out of the fishes sides tails ect from the damn snaggers up thier. Makes ya kind of have to carry a net for fear of tailing one so as not to hook yourself. Still for the life of me can not undertstand why they let them get away with that up thier day in and day out. Just glad most of them lowlifes stay up at the dam but sadly the fish go see them before they back down river to spawn in the gravel.

If you are talking about the one I wieghed on my digital scale at the archers hole that sweet monster male atlantic.... Well yes am still envious of ya that was an awsome fish still after all these years going up thier I have yet to hook an atlantic. Ya can not have it all I guess but I would gladley forget about damn near every 10lb plus brownie I got just for one decent Atlantic.

Sac, you ever fish the St. Mary's?  Was up there this summer, and it certainly got my attention.  Some huge Atlantics come outta' there every year.

Roy I can name a few spots on lake O where u can throw the consistently for kings right out the window at this exact moment!! Not trying to spot burn but I grew up just miles away from lake O!  If you look at some of the clowns that fish for kings u can also throw the skill thing out the window too!!!  Guides in a day can easily put 15 to 20 kings in a boat or on the bank on a good day!!  Kings are just a cash cow for a small town in upstate ny!!

Yeah , I hear you about the clowns, but ethical fishing and snagging are two totally different animals. I rarely see kings consistently caught in the mouth in any of your streams other than the Lower Niagara due to the fact the state does absolutely nothing to the idiots digging trebs into the sides of these fish and molesting them in every way possible. Show me someone who can consistanly put 15/20+ fair hooked fish (KINGS) on the bank in a day and I'll no doubt show you one hell of a fisherman. I've had the pleasure of loosely knowing a few dudes up there that can flat out make everyone on a given stream or out of a given harbor look stupid on any given day.... Those guys are few and far between. Not debating that there are guys who can lay the smack down when it comes to Salmon, but for the most part, they are a handful at best. As far as Guides go, we fished the Fall LOC this year right along side of some of the more noted guides on the lake, and when i say that many pulled goose eggs, I am making an understatement. In a nutshell, I still believe that it takes more skill to produce a KING than it does to produce a handfull of trout. Just my opinion.

I have fished the St MArys a few times but fished for pinks and kings not atlantics. From what I have read few atlantics will go up into the the riffles so you pretty much need to be in a boat to get most of them. Now the pink salmon fishing thier and on the garden river is insane. So many its like looking at trout run but all pinks...
