This is a wonderful firewood sculpture by Alastair Heseltine, a Canadian living in the Pacific Northwest. Visit his web site: http://www.alastairheseltine.com

This is a house in Annecy, France.  Although it looks like a firewood house, it is actually a stone house with its generous roof overhang used as a convenient and effective place to store firewood.  The picture was taken by our friend Tex McLeod, manager of the Hearth Products Association of Canada, on a recent trip to Europe.

The only way to split and not have to bend over to pick up the wood that flies all over.

My efficient splitting set-up. Note the upturned plastic bucket I use as a tool table and a place to lean the maul. No bending!

Mika,
Very cool pics and quite a cool idea with your splitting station will have to try something like that.

Split the tire on one side so you can go over your board, then nail it on.
When you miss( like I do) the shock is absorbed. Saves the shoulders alot.

Unless you enjoy the exercise, which I would understand, why wouldn't you just invest in a log splitter if you had a lot to split each year?  My FIL finally wised up after he would put out his back almost every year splitting 10-12 cord by hand.  He has oil heat as a back-up only for when they travel in the winter.

I admit, I enjoy running the saw and cutting wood for my dad and the Owner of the property I hunt on but I don't like splitting it that much.

Nice pics!  You'd definitely have to have a block walled house to keep the termites and carpenter ants away.  Speaking of which, I cut into a fallen tree this year, and I'm not kidding, there were a million ants in that thing!  (No I didn't count them, but the word infestation has never been better used)

I gotta admit....I love the whole firewood "thing".  Everything from cutting, to splitting(by hand), to the stacking and covering on pallets.  I've just been bummed that it's getting darker every night just a bit earlier.  I cut and split around 8 cord this season.  Not finished yet, though.

Thanks for sharing, it would hurt me to burn the wood in the first stack.  Great idea with the tire.

Ya Bing that would be tough. lol
I had a splitter but sold it to buy a stove, kinda like selling the saddle and then buy a horse.
Tough times for sure. I work at the pile when I can.

Doesn't this make you guys feel bad for burning wood? I guess these people don't have anything better to do. The good news is that we have a confirmed guru sighting, he's the one on the drum

Praise the Lord and pass me the oldest firewood I can get!I'll scream about the green stuff. By the way what do you think their house's are made of?And do you think that they screamed for the cotton plants too??
