Hello,

I would like to take my son fishing at Erie. He doesn't care what he catches. What are your suggestions for a Father-Son fishing day (or 2 if it works out). I am not very good at catching fish, so the easier the fishing the better.

Thank you!

If you really don't care what you catch or how big, my 12 year old loves to go over to the wall at Walnut and catch gobies and suckers and anything else that will bite. This is after spending 8 or more hours trolling for and hopefully catching Walleye out on the lake. He does it while I prep the boat for the trip home. All it takes is a few crawlers and a rod and reel.

1.) Put on some sandals and wade out a few feet on the east side of Misery Bay. Don't go out too far, gets deep fast. Be careful and you'll be ok.
Worms under a bobber should get some bluegills or a bass. My seven year old grandson loves it there.

2.) The south water works pond is also a good place for bluegills. Just keep the fish from diving down and getting tangled in the weeds. Lots of bass close to shore at sundown.

The pier at Presque isle bay, by the perry monument.  A lot of boats go in and out as well so he'll get to see them. Minnows, or worms and you'll catch anything!

If you have a small boat or canoe I would suggest Lake Leboef in Waterford. The bluegill and sunfish action can get crazy. Use some big night crawlers to catch bowfin, bass, or an ocasional northern.

Or you could go to the spillway at Pymatuning and put some bread on a hook!

Fish with worms off the docks in Edinboro and catch a mess of bluegills.

Definately misery bay for the bluegill, A kid doesnt care how big they are, as long as he is catching he is happy, my 11 year old would rather catch 50 bluegill than one trophy bass. You can catch em right off the wall by the pavilion, they will hit on pretty much anything, best bet is usually wax worms. Use light tackle, then he gets a really nice fight :)

Misery Bay, The ferry dock by the water works pond, the water works pond are good spots.Use size 6 or 8 hooks. I see alot of folks trying to use large hooks, also be sure to bring needle nose or a hook extractor to remove the swallowed hooks.

In the future you might try Tamarack Lake. It's good for the inexperienced. Small  electric only lake. All kinds of panfish and if you're lucky there is a pretty good chance of catching muskies in there. It is so small that you don't have to think about where to fish. Good luck.
