I was at walmart last night and trying to buy items to start trying artifical baits. I wanted to use Texas style rigging for worms and tubes. Can anyone tell me what size "bullet-weight" I should use to set up the Texas rig or any other style rigs.

Also, I bought "j" shaped hooks. I got size 1/0 in these hooks. IS this good or should I return for another size hook when fishing for small and large mouth Bass. Thanks in advance.

I like 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz. bullet weights when texas rigging. I suppose it depends how fast u want the worm to drop in front of that big momma. People also like to texas rig w/o weight also. Most of my L/M fishing is at moraine and I am still learning. Both seem to work well when dragging through the weeds though.

As far as hooks I mostly use 3/0 or 4/0 offset shank for worms or crayfish. get urself some of these delicious treats also. Gama also make a skip gap hook which helps hold the worm better.

go to a fishing store web site like cabelas or fish usa and browse the catalog. cabelas sells kits with all the needed stuff,ie; worms and hooks, or salamanders and hooks for carolina rigging etc. not saying to buy from there but it may help you decide on your options. me i like throwing a weightless frog on a 3/0 offset hook w/ the barb not exposed into the lily pads helps on snags.

The lightest you can get by with in that situation. I encourage you to look at carolina rigs also. I like a texas rig for something like a lizard. That way the lizard looks like he's picking up eggs. Ive never seen a worm stand on end.

By J shaped hooks I assume you meen ofset hooks. All hooks are J shaped.

Another good trick is to use brass weights with a glass bead between it and the hook. The clicking that the sinker hitting the bead makes is very attractive to a bass.
