I have the cloudveil 8x... i love it
heavy 3 layer gore-tex

I went through the process of buying one last fall

clean look and big pockets were high on my list
Also the jacket has become a replacement for vest/chestpack

the simms classic guide was another I liked
I demoed a patagucci deep wading jacket... to short for me and not heavy enough

think about your main use.... winter? rain? summer rain?
find what you want, then worry about price... ebay will get you 50%+ off

I have a Gander Mountain Guide Series.
Quality jacket and tough as nails.
It's a tad long though.
(i prefer waist length)
Last year I bought a Hodgeman.
It's waist length, lots of pockets with hood that rolls up in the collar.

Don't know if it will hold up as well to "brush busting" like the Guide Series, or if will remain as impervious to rain as the GS is, but so far I like it better for fit and function

The Simms G3 is really nice just ordered one but had to send it back because they sent the wrong size!  With the G4's out the price has went down!

I have a Hodgeman wading jacket. It works fine for me. It keeps me pretty dry and has plenty of pockets and has a reasonable price.

Have 3 hodgemans - keep buying them cause they're resonable in price (have to be careful with the pockets they rip easily) Keep the weather out but you have to weatherize them after 1-2 seasons. Many pockets and I know where everything is since I've been using them for years. PR's about 55-60 bucks.  Dave

How many pockets does the Hodgeman have?

PR's sells a green hodgeman with lots of pockets. No need for a vest with this jacket. 100% waterproof and breaks the wind nicely. Not very warm, but you can layer underneath. I think its right around $80, I got mine a few years ago, so the price might have gone up. It rolls up pretty small, so you can even pack it in your vest.

I had to go out and look, PanF

there's 5 total, unless you count the spit pockets on the large breast pockets, then it would be 7
Two large deep breast pockets with  separate smaller  pocket on the outside of them.
(All have velcro flap closures)

Two large side pockets w/zipper closures

One inside breast pocket w/zipper closure.

and at least one "D" ring

as mentioned, Poor Richards has them.
They have both, the lighter wt and the one I have.
The lighter wt is a lighter colored green and cost a few bucks less.
The one I have has a softer/quieter dark green fabric shell.

..............................................................................

If a longer length jacket is preferable  to you, I think the Guide Series is better choice, personally.
It has more pockets and split pockets than the Hodgeman, has a tougher shell fabric and is a couple bukz le$$.

It's not real warm, but I bought it as a "three season" coat  and use as my cold-cold weather wind/rain proof outer shell

The lighter weight one has 3 zippered pockets on each lower side, 2 small zippered on top right 1 flap (velcro) same side, 2 top left side, 3 tippet pockets each lower side. On the inside 1 long zippered pocket each side lower, & 1 velcro pocket upper inside (each side) Doing this from memory. could've missed 1 or 2.   Oh, and zippered pocket in back.   Dave

A black Members Only jacket one size too small should do the trick.

I have a Simms pac light for warm weather and a G4 for Cold Weather. The G4 is awesome but most people don't want to spend $500 for it. All the simms coats are great quality.

I use the simms pac light year round. Best rain jacket out there no weight, Keeps you dry(inside too) and packs very small. Winter it goes over my down.

I've got a patagonia SST that I've had a long time. The first one I had I wore for 3 months of the year as my regular raincoat at university. I wore out the shoulders (the goretex like membrane) with so much use and hard packing. Patagonia replaced it free of charge and I've used the replacement for the past couple years. Awesome jacket. Two big pockets in front for boxes, two handwarmer pockets behind the front pockets. One inside pocket for dry stuff and a big pocket on the back for lunch, extra boxes, and any other gear you want to carry. With that jacket you can carry enough gear for a solid day of fishing and be comfortable.

Just a reminder though, you don't pick a rain/wader jacket based on warmth. Pick it for waterproof, durability, and features. If you want to be warmer, wear polypro underwear, fleece overs, and if you need more then add a fleece vest on top.

Thanks
rick
