We went yesterday to pull cameras down in washington county.I know of a water hole i found from rifle hunting there.We walked down to it to see how much sigh was there(it's a fresh spring) we was not really impressed at all.With this been said how much does a deer need to consume in a day?

I don't know the assumed amount but I do know that most of their water needs are satisfied by the grasses and soft mast they consume. In States in the Northeastern U.S. water is usually not a main factor to consider when hunting deer. The arid states of the mid west is a different story and cattle troughs, and other water holes are reguarally hunted.

This isnt Africa but deer do need water. Especially during the rut. Now... doesnt necessarily mean they seek out the fresh springs. They will drink water from anything they can find. Tree's with holes, mud puddles, unlike us they do not care how clean it is.

I think where you do see a lot of deer sign is around brine water near oil drilling areas. They are there for the salt content rather than the water however. I have hunted those areas in the past but have concluded that by this time of year the chance of success is fair at best. Sure would be fun in April, May, though.

If it is dry here I have two stream stands that are money. Every year.

I scout a beaver dam on a regular basis and you wouldn't believe how many mornings I've walked around it and saw deer out in the water.Some go out quite deep eating fresh Lilly pads(the small ones)..

The hottest spots I have are along creeks in the bottoms. Dark, full of pines, rotadendrum, laurel, and white oaks.. Bucks love moist ground/swamps. Some say it's because moisture holds scent longer, but whatever. Every year, some 50+ scrapes line the creek banks in a certain 200 yard stretch. Creeks also create trails that are easy to identify, size of tracks, freshness. Most important for me, following running water allows me to sneak in undetected. The bucks I hunt bed high and rut low, so the creek bottom is where it's at during November. If I was a doe being chased by a buck, I certainly wouldn't run uphill.
