it really depends on $$ and what features you want...

what do you like about your vises? dislike?
what do you normally tie? how often?
do you move you vise? or is stationary?

well vise wish i have all my fly stuff and rod building equipment on a desk so a clamp on or pedastel would work just fine, i tie a lot for steelhead right now sucker spawns, woolly buggers, sanjuans, just figured a better vise would give me the versatility to tie some intricate flies for trout not sure just trying to gainmore knowledge and education on the subject. dn't like about my vises now the machining of them are sloppy and loose

regal is what I use almost all of the time with midge jaws but when tying bigger than 14 I use one of my other vices to hold bigger hooks

Regal ftw dUUd!

The guy who owns the fly shop I bought mine from ties on one and his 25+ year old vise holds em just as tight as mine.

Check the HMH Spartan. HMH has a Web site.

Not a huge fan of my Peak. Hook slippage is an issue and not very comfortable to work on. Thats just me though.

I only have that problem with my Peak when I'm working on hooks smaller than 14. Luckily I rarely tie that small being that I tie primarily for Smallmouth and Steelhead. My next vise will be a Dyna-King just because.

I like my Peak.  I have sent close to 7,000 hooks through it with no problems.

I use a Regal pedestal. Have both standard and midge jaws. Better vice does't necessarily equate to better tied flies.  Experience will.

I have a Peak and have been very happy with it.  For anything smaller than #14's I put the midge jaws on and have no issues.  I've tied 24's with the midge jaws without slippage.

You can't go wrong with Renzetti or Regal either, just depends on how much you want to spend.

If you go with regal, get the stainless steel jaws.   There may be a time when the hook pops out and the other jaws have a history of breaking when this happens.   I have a regal stainless and am confident that I'll never own or have to buy another vice.

The pedastols are great for moveablility.

I bought a cheapo kit from Cabela's and it has tied a few hundred flies but is now done.  The jaws slowly eroded where the hooks locked in.  I am in the market and think im going to go with the Regal Medallion.  Just because.

I bought a DANVISE back in college......it was listed as the best ROTARY vise under 100 bucks.....I have owned this thing for 8-10 years (?) and it still rocks........from size 26 midge hooks to 2/0 bass hooks........it still holds them tight.......my vise has seen thousands of flies pass through its grip--best money I have ever spent

Can't say anything about other vises.........I started out with a craptastic starter vise and almost immediately went and purchased the danvise........it was a great investment

I mostly tie trout and steelhead flies........every now and then I tie some ugly monstrosity that is bigger than need be.....
