Looking for recommendations for a two-way radio that can be used successfully in the deep woods.

Thanks, for any help.

pappy69,

I have a couple of the GMRS radios and they work fairly well as long as you are not too far apart.  The ones I have range of about 5 miles, but that is direct line of sight.  In the woods with hills it drops to about a mile or so.

Pappy,
What Bug said and also don't skimp, get the Motorola's. They seem to work better IMO.

you can get 2 motorola t9550xlr models on ebay for right around $75 shipping included. They have gmrs, rechargeable NiMH batteries, and up to 25mi. range.

I have a set of Motorolas t5950, work well depending on terrain, however it seems that I get less time on the rechargables every time I use them.I am lucky if I get more than a 1/2 day out of a set of freshly recharged batteries. I get at least 2-3 days out of a set of duracells. I always carry a fresh set with me.  sam

It's hard to get the right walkie talkie for the way you are going to use the radios and it's a waste to get the wrong radio.

Here is a two-way radio tool at http://www.techwholesale.com  that helps select the proper walkie talkie for various needs like travel, boating, business, amusement parks etc. Some people need stronger radios and some need VHF versus UHF. This helped pick out the proper type of radios.

Here is the address of the walkie talkie selection tool:   http://www.TechWholesale.com/which-radio-is-right-for-me.html
