Hey guys . As some of you gents know my close friends son pass away last month .
Me and a few other guys are putting together a dinner in his honer . The TU did a nice piece about it today . Figure Id post it here . If you guys arnt doing anything Monday September 15 between 4-7 pm come on out and get a dinner . Hell maybe you'll even win a trip .

RJ You are the man . I am proud to call you a friend .

I will also be promoting the dinner and raffles on September 13-14th at the outdoors show in Gloversville .
I will be doing some casting instruction and tying stuff . I'll have at least 2 extra vices and a few rods kicken around .

Below from today's Times union .

Sometimes the generosity of the outdoor community takes on a far more local and personal note. I was recently contacted by Dan Motyl regarding another effort by the outdoors community. Dan has been hard at work putting together a dinner for the Giglio family. On August 8, the family suffered a terrible loss when 10 month-old Jayson Paul Giglio died.Motyl and friends are rallying area sportsmen and the general public and are hosting a benefit dinner from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, at the Armory Grill in Amsterdam. The meal includes spaghetti, salad and dessert and all proceeds will go to the Giglios. A raffle is also scheduled. Most of the items have been donated by area sport shops or guide services. For example, Gottums Guide service has donated a guided drift boat trip for two on the Salmon River for steelhead (http://www.fishsteelhead.com). Guide Loren Williams has donated a day of fly-fishing (http://www.flyguysoutfitting.com). R.J. Strattman, a back-country brook trout guide, has also donated a day of fishing (http://www.foreverwildoutfitters.com). Fox Hollow Lodge (http://www.foxhollowsalmonriverlodge.com) on the Salmon River has donated two nights lodging for two in March (prime steelhead fishing time). The folks at Goldstock's in Glenville have donated a gift certificate.

In addition to all of the great outdoor trip giveaways, many of the raffle prizes appeal to other sports fans, like New York Mets tickets or gifts like day passes to area spas.Motyl is still putting together the prizes and will surely have more items and trips generously donated by folks trying to help the Giglio family. For more information call Dan at 829-4011 or e-mail mohawkriverdan@hotmail.com, or jay@trenchmouthproductions.com.When you head out to hunt this fall, remember to give something back.
Above was written By Rob Streeter . Thanks Rob .

Heres a link to the outdoors show . I'm kinda nervous about this so if you guys want to come out and bust my balls , that would be great .http://www.adkshow.com/

Dan , Really You are the force behind this, we are only here to do our part which is what life is all about .
My condolences to the Giglio family.

Here is what I have been posting throughout the sports persons community.

Friends helping friends:
http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.a....wsdate=9/4/2008
to me this is the way I was taught and will always be forever in my genes.
Sadly this tragic event happened, why ? only the higher authority knows. What this means to me is another future sports person has been taken far to soon.
For us who are fortunate enough to still enjoy what life has to offer we can help those less fortunate.

Folks, I don't want to get all preachy , If you can, please join in .
These kind folks have offered some generous trips and goods for us sports persons.
If you can not attend the dinner, which I will be in attendance, than you can contact Dan Motyl at 829-4011 or e-mail mohawkriverdan@hotmail.com for information about how you can help the Giglio family. Your generosity in buying or bidding on these fine prizes donated by people who care & share will be most appreciated.

I want to give a big Thank You to:
Rob Streeter @ Times Union
Gottums Guide service :http://www.fishsteelhead.com
Loren Williams :

Hey perch I got your email . Figured I post the reply here so everybody could see the directions .

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Albany+&1s=NY&2c=Amsterdam&2s=NY&2z=12010&2pn=Parillios+armory+grill#a/maps/l:::Albany:NY::US:42.6525:-73.756699:city:Albany+County/l:Parillo%27s+Armory+Grill:67+Bridge+St:Amsterdam:NY:12010:US:42.933441:-74.198398:address:/m::7:42.793363:-73.974468:0::/io:1:::::f:EN:M:/e

The dinner is 4-7 pm sept 15th at 67Bridge St. Perrillos Armory Grill in Amsterdam NY Above is a link with directions from the thruway exit 27 .
You can pay at the door .

You can also purchase tickets at the outdoors show .That is on the 13-14th . 347 West fulton st extension . Gloversville ny .

  • Take NYS Thurway Exit 28 (Fonda-Fultonville Exit)
  • Upon Exiting the Thruway Toll Booth take a left onto River Road
  • All the while, be following signs for Route 30A North
  • Follow River Road for 500 Yards and take right hand turn at Traffic Light (go over bridge)
  • Just over the bridge, you will see the Fonda Speedway (Fair) on your right
  • Go 300 Yards to next Traffic Light
  • At the Traffic Light, take a left onto Route 5 (aka Main Street Fonda)
  • At the next Traffic Light, take a right onto Route 30A North/aka Broadway (you will see a Stewart's Coffee Shop, Subway & Bank at this corner)
  • Follow Route 30A North up through Johnstown and then into Gloversville
  • When going through Johnstown, you will see a very built up Business District and then you go through a woodsey/undeveloped area just before Gloversville
  • *Upon entering Gloversville, take a left onto Fulton Street/29A (it is about 10 miles from the NYS Thruway to this point)
  • Follow Fulton Street West and go through the city of Gloversville
  • Along the way (going through Gloversville), you will cross the intersections of Kingsborough Avenue & Main Street (keep going)
  • Upon starting to leave Gloversville (just past McNab School & Franks West End Market), you will come to a fork in the road
  • Bear left at this fork in the road
  • It will seem like you are heading to "no where", but you are going the correct way!
  • The Concordia Club driveway will be about 1 mile up the road on the right. Take this road down into the woods to the Show.
  • In all, this route is approximately 15 miles from the NYS Thruway Exit 28 and should take you about 20 minutes.
Id love to see you there . It should be a good show . I'll be tying all day and doing a few 20 minute casting demos . I'll also be doing 1 on 1 15 minute demos for anyone that buys a ticket to the benefit . Or just mention Fishusa and I'll do it for free . I'm not a "certified casting instructor" but I have helped a lot of people learn how to cast . I can have most people that have never cast a fly rod casting good enough to fish in under 15 mins .
It will be a learning eperiance for me I'm sure . While you are out in Gloversville you can check out the new fly shop . "The fly Shack" is on west Fulton st . Its a nice shop with flies for .79  and lots of cheep materials .

Robert Streeter rocks too...   I grew up reading the old "Fishy Fullem" column in the local paper as a kid...

Even though "Fishy" has gone to the big impoundment in the sky- Rob's doing a great job of keeping the Capital Region and surrounding fisheries in the public eye...  His book "Fly Fishing in New York" is awesome- and the dude fishes the Mohawk religously...

He knows a thing or two about the Pike and Tigers in the Rexford area...  It was great to see him print such a kind paragraph for Dan and his buddy's family...  Kudos to Rob Streeter, indeed...

Last night was an overwhelming success ! We were initially worried about attendance numbers and figured on about 60-100 people .
We ended up serving well over 300 and the raffles brought in huge money . RJ you are the **** ! Your donation brought in almost twice the face value of your most expensive trip . I'm sure that you will in some way reap the benefits of your kindness .

Good stuff dude . Good stuff .
