I have a boat trailer coupler that looks similar to the one above.
After backing trailer in and disconnecting ball I had the girl I was with remove chains and wires then move truck.
The breakaway mechanism wire was not disconnected - I saw it dangling under truck today.
I have not looked at the trailer yet but would guess that  I can't move it?
How much of a pain is this going to be fixing?

Thanks, Marty

It is not actually that hard at all.If it is not deployed, which meant it pulled out engaging your emergency breakaway surge breaks, just hook it back up.You may have felt at some point towing the boat an increase in engine torque required to tow the boat.If not, you're OK.If you are not sure, take a screwdriver to the spring which would have been deployed in this case, and reset the spring mechanism from underneath the hitch. This spring is near the fluid container you can only see from underneath. You may have got away with it,I had the same thing happen myself and my S-hook was even ripped off during travel. If it wasn't on yours, you're probably ok.

Thanks
I will probably look at it tonight or tomorrow.

If you are looking for a new first mate Candi will be available if she breaks one more thing!

I think I can crimp a wire ferrel  or braze/solder a loop in the wire then reset the lever.
I might even start with a new wire and  replace the S hook with a quick link.
I am replacing the S hooks on my safety chains also.

Both of my boat trailers have wire cables for the safety chain and crossing them is pointless because they start at the same point. I think I might also switch this setup to a U bar shackled to the trailer to spread the chains or wire at the back.

I switched to a brass clasp that had a spring loaded lever on it to close a 360 deg loop on the emergency breakaway cable.Just made more sense because the first S-hook fell off on the road.
