I see this every year at another kids only area in Cook Forest. Guys there are plenty of waters to fish, leave these for the kids. Its ok to help them if they need it, but don't pick up the rod, set the hook then hand it off. That doesn't teach the kid how to fish. Thats ok in a farm pond with your 2 year old catching panfish, but not in these areas. Take the time in the off season to teach your kids to cast, drift and set a hook . If you need trout that bad alot of stores sell them to eat.
Just my thoughts !!

Glad YOU feel, better. Venting here will do that, but that's ALL it will do. The time and, place to speak your mind, was THEN, and THERE, otherwise you are just wispering into the wind.

Sometimes it's good to let kids find out early that daddy's an A-hole. They'll waste less of their youth looking to him as a role model, and have a chance at success.

typical fat, lazy, cheap beer drinking, self centered, obnixous, greedy, dog beating, jobless, bums that are a typical sight unfortunatley at this time of the year around these parts, one of the reasons why i dont frequent some waters well stocked trout waters much myself but i do take my son other places ,to me pa stocked trout season is like giant easter egg hunt the stock truck being the easter bunny, the trout being the easter eggs, the so called adults fishing them out after just putting them in minutes ago are the kids running for the hidden eggs, then the golden egg aka palomino usually draws 6 or so older men who should know better but one cracks and usually snags the golden egg by another part of the anatomy other than the mouth, then the eggs aka palomino goes home after being paraded aroung the neighborhood, and like the colored eggs in the fridge eventually is tossed out in next weeks trash sorry for the negative view , but its true lol

To the adult fathers fishing the Grove City/Wolf Creek childrens area.  You may have missed the sign behind you that states clearly the area is for ages 12 or under however since you try to force your four year old boy to play at your feet while you fish I think you realize that you are in the wrong.  In fact, every year you and others like you, in your vests and waders with children in tow, take advantage of this area while many of us watch.  We are polite enough not to embarrass you in front of the kids but it always our hope a WCO will finally venture to Grove City, catch and fine your ass while they confiscate the expensive gear you seem to think we believe belongs to your child.  Oh, and I'd like to cram those cigarette butts you toss onto the ground around you into your mouth but again, I am too polite.

I feel better now, thank you!

I hope you're not mistaken any of this with someone's dad doing everything they can to help their kid catch a fish.  If you're not, than I'm with you, but if I was trying to help my kid catch a fish and someone decided to stick their nose in it and show me up (WCO or not) that would not be the last time they seen me...gauranteed.

Hey, has anyone else noticed how with the start of trout season this discussion board has turned from being about where to fish and what to use to just a bunch of whining? Is it like this every year?

I think reporting these people is the only way to go.  The honest guy goes to work everyday and waits til the opening day to fish for trout and when he gets to the stream to find it void of fish he will be pissed.  Think about it.

It's not about kissing up to anybody, it's about reporting violations that otherwise would not be dealt with.  In Erie, everyone who has a cell phone should have the WCO's number on hand.

No, the kid he was using for cover was about 4 years old.  It was obvious he was fishing and keeping the boy nearby in case anyone questioned him.  There was no training involved. In fact when the kids brother caught a fish, the father never pulled his own line from the water.  Might he have had the younger son reel in had he caught something, perhaps, but he caught nothing while I was there.  I think we all made him a little nervious.

I don't have a WCO on speed dial and I am not my brothers keeper.  Just venting and hoping fishermen will police themselves.  The best scenario would be for the guy to be a forum visitor, recognize himself and correct his ways.  One could only hope!

shemanese, I am not whining so blow away.

Hey man, anyone with kids knows they can be impatient and lose interest quickly.  Maybe the dude was just trying to catch something and hand off to his son to reel in?  Possibly the kid was unable (physcally/mentally) to cast w/o out spooking the fish so the dad thought this was the only way he could have his son "catch" something to introduce him to "fishing" for trout that they could share together.

My 2 cents are to LAYOFF and GROWUP!!!!  You clowns sound like some petty, anal, selfish trout mongers!!!  You call yourselves "expert" fisherman, yet you probably fish 2' from the end of the children's area BECAUSE IT's LEGAL.

Let the kids have some fun, too.  There are PLENTY of trout to go around, especially for a couple of experts like yourselves.

YOU ARE A WHINER.

YOU WANT FISHERMEN TO POLICE THEMSELVES AND THE BEST YOU CAN DO IS SOME PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE CRAP AT THE KEYBOARD.

Is reporting someone really worth a few trout?,,what if that person is a nut job and saw what car you drove in with? It's not out of the question for someone to try and get back at some suck-up who called a warden because they were catching trout where they're not supposed to be. Some things are worth calling about others are not,,,use disgression. Do any of us call the cops if we see someone speeding on the highway or running lights?
Maybe someone would if they had 6 trout in thier cooler on the backseat.

I think it really comes down to whether the fathers had any interest in getting their kids to fish, or if they used their children as an excuse to fish there.  If  they're fishing and the child is tossing dirt, or running around with other kids, in my humble opinion, these fathers should stop fishing.  If the kid can't cast, reel, bait (etc) the rod, and the father is helping with that, I personally don't see anything wrong, as long as the child's interest is at heart.

I have a 7 year old sister that I took to twin lakes last year.  She had her little pink princess fishing pole with her, and though she tried a couple times, couldn't get the hang of casting, or really for that matter, reeling in.  She eventually lost interest in holding the pole all together, and at the point, we packed hers up since I had 2 pole out already.  It would have been easy enough for me to have hers out and catch fish with it, saying it was hers, but she didn't wanna do it any more, so she hit the playground with the other kids.

On a side note, there are people out there that will stand up for the "Children Only" rules.  I'm not gonna name names or places, but there's a private club that stocks a private pond for just that purpose, and God help anyone that fish there without the childrens' interest in mind.

Well, you and shemanese (is that really a gay name?) can bite me. First, it states very clearly it is for children ONLY.  Period!  I'm guessing from your attitude this hits a nerve with you.  Do you still fish the childrens areas?

No fishing in the childrens area means no fishing, period.  No excuses!

I had some fishing buddies over for dinner tonight and the subject came up.  One lives near the children only area and sees this often at this time of year.  Fathers who fish while their children watch.  Another is friends with a WCO.  They tell me the WCO's do show up on occasion on this stretch and arrest several each year with some hefty fines.

So, yep, let the kids have fun and arrest the fathers who are too simple to fish with adults.

Strike a nerve with me??? Yak, YOU were the ORIGINAL POSTER!!!!!   You, my friend, must be about 51 cards shy of a whole deck!

OBVIOUSLY, you are the one it struck a nerve with - probably because you, again, come off as a petty, anal, trout monger who wants all the trout for himself!!!  My theory, however, is that there are PLENTY OF FISH IN THE CREEK - ESPECIALLY for an EXPERT FISHERMAN like yourself! LMFAO!

First, the tags that come with a user name are by number of posts, not self titled.  Grow up.

Second, no I do not want the trout for myself and I rarely trout fish anymore mainly because there are too many assholes who think they can fish but cannot.  I fish for other species, and often in salt. What I want is for handicapped parking spaces to be reserved for handicapped people, pregnant spaces for pregnant women and for childrens fishing areas to be used for children only.

I don't fish anywhere near the childrens are but I suppose you do.  Feel free. I am sure the fishing world needs more like you.

LMFAO?  How cute and original!

First, now I get it! You CRY about kid's fathers fishing with them in the childeren's area to add posts to become and 'expert'?  Wow man, you are good!

Second, Yakidy, Yakidy, Yak, YaK!  Please don't waste your time and talent ranting here about non-rule followers.  YOU SHOULD REALLY GET INTO LAW INFORCEMENT!!! You'd be perfect!! LMFAO even more.

And a piece of advice to you, rules are made for a reason, but let THOSE QUALIFIED handle those who break them, or you may get yourself in over your head.  Like, perhaps, telling a fat lady she's not pregnant.  Again, LMFAO.

And for what it's worth, I only fish for trout once a year with some buddies in Northen Arkansas (Ozarks) on the White/Norfork rivers.  As for children's areas?  I do not even know where 1 is located.

And to the "dickhead" comment, if you would like to meet to discuss further, please call me: 724.733.0018

This is hilarious lol. Listen, personally i think the both of you have valid arguments. In reality i dont think either one of you is wrong at all. Im sure there are some fathers who really do use thier kids as cover to fish the childrens areas. That is without a doubt unnacceptable and we all agree with that. BUT some children need a little more help than others. Maybe they have a mental or physical dissability that prohibits them from casting or reeling and need this help from thier father. Or maybe they are just too young to do so. In these situations i think that its pefectly fine and necesary that a parent should step in and help out a little. So in my mind neither one of you is wrong...
