As a noob tyer the thread sizes and diameters were kind of confusing.
After I purchased a dozen spools of thread that were way to thin. This chart helped me.

what do you consider "too thin"?

i have been using 14/0 pretty much for everything except LARGE pike/bass flies

KJH, I'll be able to use it down the road when I develope a softer hand with the bobbin..
I just have to remember I'm not pulling log chokers..

Got a dozen spools of Danville, some Uni-thread 6/0, ultra thread 210.

I changed bobbins also, seems the one bobbin I have is really hard on thread...

I use ultra and uni as well. I find that the ultra lays down very nice and flat, but it is very susceptible to abrasion, and the individual fibers sometimes separate in where they wrap onto the hook. Uni, for me, is a better all purpose thread. I use black uni 8/o for about 75% of my tying. The last 25% is eggs which get bright orange ultra thread, and various dries/nymphs/etc that get an appropriate color, other than black.

I use ultra 140 for everything except my deer hair patterns and I use jell spun for that. My egg patterns i also use jell spun you can really torque em down with that.

i use 6/0 for almost all my nymph patterns and bulky patterns. i use 8/0 for my dry flies.

make sure you are using a ceramic tube bobbin... if not, that could be your issue

Same here. 6&8
I use 10/0 or 14/0 for #20 and smaller miniature trout flies.
Occasionally 3/0 for deerhair work.

For most of my tying it's 6/0 or 8/0 but also use some 10/0 for the small stuff and fine clear mono for the big, burly things.

Cold, my 10/0 is some old Gudebrod that I got from a friend. Apparently it has been discontinued. When it runs out gonna try the Wapsi UTC 70 thread. Was told that it is very similiar to the Gudebrod 10/0. Don't know for sure, haven't really done any research on it.

I have some Benecchi 12/0. Good stuff.
The 14/0 is Sheer from the U.K
