Today I got a new rod & reel and worm box. This was purchased from Jimmy's Bait & Tackle in South Greensburg. I got a wonderful deal from them. I also was able to get things that gander mtn doesnt have. I was also told if I had any issues with anything just go back. Now I buy my bait from Jimmy & Martha all the time. These are some great people, who care about there customers.

I ask that if you can please support these wonderful folks.

Mark

Yes I agree with everything you are saying about your local bait and tackle shop or your local fly shop! I have stopped into many of the so called bigger stores and the one thing you do not get is that personel touch. They just want your money and that is it. They also employ some people who claim they are experts but I even question that. They do sometimes have a lot me on the shelf but it is not always the right stuff for this or that part of the country. Support your local shops as much as you can. They appreciate your business a lot more!!!

Especially with gas prices lowering the number of visits some ofthese shops get, it's a good time to stop in. Even if you don't need bait or hardware (I know: you always need a new lure!), if you want a soda or need some ice, get it from your local shop. Every little bit helps.

Jimmy & Martha's bait shop is located in South greensburg. Right off of 119 turn at the bp station head up towards carbon. And you'll see the a the sign. They also have a pull off space. The door is on the side, for the bait shop.

Once again please support these wonderfull people.

seems like all the local shops have closed up in just the past couple years.  there used to be a shop on union cemetary road in greensburg, i used to always stop in there.  peevee's closed a recently and i'm not even sure if swivel's (near mammoth) is still open.

i think i've only been in that Jimmy's bait shop once and that was a while back, i'll have to start going there more ofter since i cant stand Gander Mtn.  Gander never has what you need, i went there one day last year in the spring and they had no bait whatsoever!  but they do have every 12" long musky lure ever made.  who fishes with those things around here?

My grandfather owned a hunting and fishing store in sharpsburg (ALBEE'S) for years. That wasn't just his job, it was his life and he loved it. The problem with the big retail stores is that they don't give a crap if you catch fish or if you get a nice trophy deer, they just care about business. Plus, half the people that work there don't know what the hell they are talking about anyway. I know more than some of the people at gander mountain (not ALL but SOME), and I'm one half their age.

I have to agree about all the big box stores, I think they have done the most in putting the small guy out of business because they handle more product sometimes.  But with that statement, I also hate to go to Gander Mt, Dick, Cabela's, and BPS because they never seem to carry what I want or need.  The shop on union cemetary road in greensburg was a nice shop just like Strawpump sporting goods and Harrisoncity sporting good was too but, like most they are now gone because in part of big box stores and the ability not to be able carry what people want.

I use alot of mepps lure when fishing the streams and some lakes.  Most of the smaller shops don't carry the lures because there is so many sizes and colors to handle and they can't afford having product on the shelves that only sells a few to certian customers.  On that note also the big boxes stores only carry the favorite colors that sell the most it seems.  I have had to revert to going straight to Mepps for one to buy what I want and some other manufactures as well. I wish the little shops carried what I want as I would support them and most likely save a few dollars at the same time.

In the end I guess we all try to help the little shops out but sometimes it is hard if they don't have what you are looking for when you need it.

I'm shocked anyone still remembers that little shop on Union Cemetary. I remember buying
green and red maggots from them. Great people.
