One of the things I really enjoyed about Glen's most recent  post  Weekend to Remember  was the way it celebrated the whole experience of steelhead fishing.  More than just being about fish, it's about the people we fish with, noticing the beauty of our surroundings, appreciating the various animals encountered on our outings, and so on (I, for one, really appreciated the first picture where Plum Bob was obviously pointing out the geese for Glen to be able to photograph and share with us).

To that end, how about sharing some of the cool critters we've come across while fishing.  I came across this one while fishing the access.  This is the terrestrial phase of the Eastern Spotted Newt, the Red Eft.  Sort of like redfish, I guess the number of spots on these guys can vary, with some having as many as 30 spots.

what IS or WAS that thing? that's pretty gross.

great pics guys!
I lost every picture that I took this summer when my computer crashed a few weeks ago.
but most of my critter pics aren't taken streamside anyways. I need to get a waterproof camera.

I cant compete with most of you guys but Im learning how to get better shots from your pics. Here are a couple that I can find. Some have been posted before but Ill throw em out there again.

Fawn and Herring from Allegheny river trip.

Cardinal from the other day. Tree limbs drown out the clarity of the bird. dang ....was hoping it would have come out better

Great shots once again, everyone.  Thanks!

What a monster tadpole, JH.  I guess that must be a bullfrog?  Anybody done a tadpole fly yet?  ;-)

KJH, I see you came across a red eft too--only your has a lot more spots than mine!

Here is another critter I imagine a good number of us have come across:

Deetz, can you manually focus your camera? Most of the time I use manual just because of what happened to you. Camera focussing on other objects and not the subject. it's PIA, but you get used to it quick.

Here's some mutes in a pond near home today. Out about 200 yds. Rain and fog didn't make for great pcs but they're there...

Deetz, I put a bird feeder in the tree near my house. It was great practice to manually focus in the birds thru the branches. The shot above was manual. Without a tripod, the auto focus was off because of slight movement on the water and at the distance. Manually focused worked better.

Here's a good example having to use manual. I stalked the turk to maybe 80-85 yrds. in the woods. Took a few shots to dial in but I got it. The auto focus was only focusing on the foregrund branches.

This deer came within 15 ft of us. We were talkin and casting...It didn't seem scared.

Took us quite a few tries to get this guy back to the "right" side of the tracks. He snapped and scratched the whole time. Turtles only WALK slow. They bite and slash at high speed.

The rest of my pics are of dead stuff.

Pine Creek at Tiadoughton again, one of 25 or so known dens between Tiad' and Blackwell. Yep, there are two there. Yep it was mating season. I had seen the yellow one earlier, but then I left. On my way back I saw the black one in the same spot and almost got too close to the yellow one while watching him.
