Went up once in June for smallmouths.
Didin't have much luck with them but caught a lot of small Atlantics.

yes, I went up last year in late April.

Pretty easy pickings for the Steelies when using nightwalkers under a float.

Not much fight left in the post spawn fish.

Not sure if I will make a trip again to target the droppies.

Go by all means and they go on a feeding rampage post-spawn. 3rd week of April til at least mid-May is prime. The later you go, the further down river you fish.

The fish are numerous and easy pickins.

But I personally am not into numbers and feel that the fish fight like a beat-up wet sock since they are a mere shadow of their former early winter glory.

The number of dead floaters was proof enough for me.

true... but you can hit one's that have finished spawning and began to eat again.  they will actually start to silver up as they eat, and energy comes along with it.  winter steelhead is by far my favorite though... and yes you can have good days all the way in to mid may.  but don't think it's easy.  timing, water level and temp all comes in to play.  also appetite.  good luck

By the time they get back down to Dougie's place--they are silver and full of spunk again

I went once. Not into the spawned out thing, plus when I was up the river was loaded with 7 or 8 inch Kings I am guessing got stocked. I haven't gone since. Not my bag baby. A long Winter could persuade a person to do such things though.

Spawned out fish and feeling like you just might brake the back of a tired hen
