It will bring in fish . As a kid I used a 6ft ugly stik & spinning reel w/ 6lb test and had no problems landing steel unless the creeks are blown out then you'll lose alot . The purpose of a longer rod is to put less stress on your line as well as have more control over the fish when they "run". Hell I'd like to land one on my old snoopy rod ... It could be done .

sweet..thanks guys. i thought about my 7' ultra light but thought that might be going a little too far..i caught a 14 pound carp on it(w/2 lb test by the way) this past spring. so that was an accomplishment..but man, it took forever..and a carp, isn't a steelhead..

Perhaps after the one fly we could have a Snoopy fly tourney? Largest fish caught on the snoopy rod gets a 1lb jar of skein! and some mesh to tie sacks and a blaze orange fishing vest >LMAO

A sports writer ( I don't recall who) once wrote an article about an ocean fishing trip where he brought a little persons rod. He brought it just to see if he could catch a Blue (I beleave it was Blues) on the rod. Well he and his buddies really got into them, and he remembered the little rod. It was all laughs untill he managed to land one, then all his Bud's wanted their turn. It's all fun! If its not give it up!

The lighter your tackel the more fun it is. I suppose it can be frustrating if your too quick to get em in or you forgot to set your drag, either way its just good fun. I use "middle of the road tackel" 10' riversider shimmano reel, I don't know what modle and 4# magna thin with 6# to back it up if I'm wanting to get em in faster. I watched someone land a 8-9 lber with a toddler pole at the nut. The kid was happy, he was 5'8" and about 200 lbs but he acted like he was 8 years old and caught his first fish. Good times by all!!
